Just a heads up for anyone living around Hampshire area, Sunderland under 21's are playing Chelsea away on Monday 30th November and it's more than likely to be at the Recreation Ground. For those not in the know its Aldershot Towns Stadium.
Hamp shire. Ha'way man that sounds git posh. Theres probably only Blunham would fit in there. With his mercs and fine dining. Sorry blunham.
There is nowt posh about Hampshire mate, like everywhere it has its nice places and its not so nice places. Main difference though is it always seems to be about 5 degrees warmer down here
One of the lads says its because Aldershot had Chelsea's pitch from last year? Tidy little ground with a capacity of about 7000 so good atmosphere when full up. Last week was Chelsea V Man City and only 7-800 went and it was free to get in??
I maybe wrong here but doesnt SAFC hold the record for highest reserve game? For some strange reason im thinking over 40k v liverpool at the SOL Or am i just going bonkers.
Found this little snippet on line. 'Give yourselves a round of applause,' the announcer suggested at half-time. 'There are 32,717 of you in the ground.' As the official highest attendance at a reserve match stands at 21,500, set in the special circumstances of Eric Cantona's comeback for Manchester United, this was already a staggering gate. Later it was revised upwards to 33,517 to include latecomers and corporate guests. It probably won't count as a record, since Sunderland were not charging admission, but that hardly detracts from the achievement. Only 3,000 more people saw the Keegan and Beardsley show (it says something for the North-East when close on 70,000 people turn out to watch non-first team football on the same night), while the attendance at Sheffield United's FA Cup fourth round victory over Cardiff City was a mere 13,296. Admittedly Liverpool made attractive opponents on Wednesday, with Steve McManaman in the team and Gerard Houllier and Robbie Fowler watching from the sidelines, and unashamedly Sunderland had made a bid for the kids. The vast majority of spectators inside the ground were juveniles, hence the large numbers walking to the game and the gaps which appeared on the terraces about 10 minutes before the end. 'Bedtime,' explained a club official.
6 is so common now - but seriously we seem to have a good academy set up at moment - conundrum when do promising yp's get a chance ? not in premier unless you have top 4-6 team - they are viewed as a gamble - unproven passengers but imo they are full of enthusiasm, full of youthful fearless with a winning mentality and will bring a huge chunk of feel good factor energy to the team (and us fans ) but will it happen
My opinion? The play fast neat and direct. Many of them them will give the first team squad the kick up the arse they need. You can visibly see how Watmore's hunger and drive raises every bodies game when he's on the pitch. Well he isn't the only one with that drive and determination. Most of them a are better passes of the ball than our seniors and imo The U21 league is much much quicker. The worry would be physicality as some of these younguns are still growing lads who still need to fill out and 'become men' in stature.
Fills me with hope that BFA - if speed is there physicality at premier level will probably be a challenge for them but if they're ready they will be up to it - imo - BSA should go for it &give them a chance - always replace from bench if not works but .. egos & personalities may stop this
Well that's it fella, introducing too many at once would lead to us being physically overwhelmed in games. Need to spread their game time initially. Only Mandron is a beast atm but I don't think he'll ever end up a Premier league forward. For me, Gooch would have been on the bench instead of Graham against Everton.
