Interesting and fun trophy comparison: Chelsea 19, Arsenal 17 Chelsea five European trophies (including Super Cup). Arsenal 1. Out of all the 'big' clubs, surely Arsenal have the worst European trophy count.
Domestic to European success, their record is a pretty embarrassing comparison. Chelsea are now the biggest club in London but Arsenal can have their 2 cup finals a year against the other also-rans from north London
Bigger fanbase worldwide, more trophies in the last 50 years. More or less the same turnover, despite our stadium seating 15k less fans. Yeah, I would say they have been well and truly usurped...... Oh and the fact that we kick the **** out of them every season because their manager is stubborn ****** who knows as much about tactics as a ****ing grapefruit.
Lovely wum style thread Arsenal: 13 league titles, 11 fa cups, 2 league cups, 13 community shields and 2 European cups. Chelsea: 4 league titles, 7 fa cups, 4 league cups, 4 community shields, 3 European cups, 1 euro super cup Arsenal: 41 trophies, third most successful club in the country, most successful fa cup team in the country Chelsea: 23 trophies, mainly in the last ten years since abramovich took over Domestically arsenal have played in approximately double the amount of finals as Chelsea. As for Europe - Arsenal: 2 trophies, 7 European finals Chelsea: 3 trophies and the super cup, 4 finals (including the super cup) Arsenal haven't quite achieved the European success we would have liked. We hold records for qualifying for the competition and getting out of our group, we've been to the later stages many, many times and as you can see above got to plenty of finals over the years. 2006 is the year we really should have won the CL. Chelsea have waited until the last few seasons to have European success, other than the couple of trophy wins you haven't exactly set Europe alight. And the champions league was won by horrible anti football. And it cost you a fortune on players to get the squad together to win the cup. Prior to the last few years you wouldn't have even brought Europe up. So I agree arsenal of all the big clubs have had limited European success and I'd love to see us go and win a European trophy. But Chelsea the biggest club in London? No.
On top of that, both clubs have a similar global fanbase, occupying fourth and fifth globally in the overall supporters tables with Chelsea in recent years over taking arsenal by about 10m due to there recent European success I'd imagine. So on fans, Chelsea just about take it worldwide, but it's a close run thing. Arsenal have a much better stadium, it's larger, more modern and has better facilities. Arsenal win hands down on the stadium and facilities front. Value. Arsenal are valued as one of the most valuable sports clubs in the world. With a worth approximately 500 million dollars more than Chelsea. Though Chelsea are the next down to arsenal in terms of value, it's a big difference between the two. Chelsea (again due to recent success) have a very slightly higher revenue than arsenal at present. But arsenal hold much larger sponsorship deals, for example the 30m a year kit sponsor arsenal have is 150% of the 20m a year deal Chelsea has. So from a sponsorship point of view and sustainable revenue rather than success based revenue arsenal are still the better run and bigger club.
Don't really see the point of this thread. Why was it started? Quite a few random threads started by this poster. There's a lad on the United board who does a similar thing.
An impressive record in all truth. Particularly if you gloss over the corruption involved in getting them there in the first place.
Played 7 and won 2, though that includes one inter cities fairs cup which is recognised by FIFA but not uefa since uefa didn't run the competition.
I thought Manchester United was the biggest London based club! Objectively, what makes a club big? Recent Trophies? Total Trophies? European Trophies? Stadium Size? Fan Size? # of players named Gerrard? Turnover? Perhaps we devise a formula: Club Size = RT + TT + (5*ET) + (SS /1000) + (FB / 1000000) + (G * 20) RT = Total major Trophies earned in Last 10 years TT = Total major trophies earned in entirety. ET = European Trophy SS = Seats in Stadium FB = Estimated World Wide Fan Base G = # of players in the squad named Gerrard I think this would form the basis of an unbiased framework on which to build a formula to decide the size of a club. / honestly have no idea which of your clubs would be bigger in this scenario
