In the US this year it will be possible to view every game for free either on tv or on the interweb 'live'. Obviously the big viewing figures will be on tv and in particular on the 2 major networks showing the Prem, NBC and NBCSports which are both available to over 90M homes. So who have the Execs at NBC chosen to show the most over the first 13 games? Chelsea's first 13 Prem games, 11 are on tv. What of the so called big guns? ManU 9 Lafferpool 9 Citeh 8 Spuds 8 L'arse 8
Out of interest, what is your "experience" of this particular subject? For a number of years I spent one week out of every month in New York and also travelled around other US cities (didn't like Dallas). Finding a bar to watch every United, Liverpool and Arsenal game was never an issue. At the time Chelsea was just a district of NYC, very few people would have been aware of a football club having the same name (just to clarify. I'm referring to the late 90's and early 00's). Granted you have your fanbase now but by suggesting only United and Chelsea really have a US presence you are just confirming your status as a modern Chelsea fan with no real knowledge of the football world pre-Roman.
My experience in New York, Florida and Nevada + what I've been told by friends living in California. Not to mention visits to the Caribbean (Same broadcasting as US). Chelsea have always had a huge Fanbase in Barbados due to the team playing out their in the 70s (against Wolves). As hard as it is to believe for United fans, football did exist pre-1992.
Indeed DL the biggest 2 by some way. One year apart Chelsea and Manu played at the same stadium. One was a record breaking sellout, one wasn't. Manu were not playing in front of the record breaking sellout I think the fact we're picked for tv more by a country were ratings are the be all and end all tells us all we need to know. NBC spent a huge amount to secure the rights from Fox and they aren't going to put teams on their biggest networks with out being sure they're the biggest draw.
All the United Johnny-come-lately Sky brigade don't realise that Chelsea were a top 5 club in the 60s and early 70s
Not just the 60's and 70's EC. As this shows http://www.fl125.co.uk/records/league-attendances we have 4 of the all-time top 10 league attendances spread over the 30's,40's and 50's. Odd for such a little club that only came in to being in 2003.
Leave them to it, let them think they have a big club Just don't tell them about the trophies, or lack of them
You raise a very interesting point actually. Those massive crowds we got were at a time when we hadn't won a single major trophy, not one. Now that is the definition of loyal support. Thanks for raising the point
I would imagine so. It's funny how people say we have no history blah blah but when the facts are revealed it's
