I feel that in matches Chelsea should be scoring more goals rather than defending a 1 nil lead then only to find ourselves drawing against teams in the bottom 10 team like Wigan no disrespect to them. Chelsea really need a striker this January because the main reason we are not scoring is that Torres and Drogba are off form and is why Chelsea are in 4th. These are the potential strikers on AVB's list Hulk, Cavani, Neymar and Pato. Don't think Cavani is possible this January considering that Napoli play us in the Champions League soon and they'd want their top goal scorer on the pitch against us. There have been rumors that Pato is allowed to move to Chelsea if Carlos Tevez joins AC Milan but their president has denied this. Do think Pato would be an excellant buy though. This only leaves us with Hulk or Neymar. Even though Neymar is considered too expensive for a 19 year old Chelsea could match Santos's £45million valuation. Recently Neymar has played down a move to Barcelona who are in financial difficulties. Neymar is certainly cheaper than Hulk though. Hulk is another great striker but 100 million euros buy-out-clause is too much especially as Cristiano Ronaldo is a far superior player than him and he cost Real Madrid £80m. Think Porto are willing to negotiate though for maybe around the 40-50m mark. There are only two central creative midfield players who I think we need and they are Gotze from Dortmund or Sergio Roberto from Barcelona. Hopefully the Gary Cahill deal gets finalized soon. If Chelsea didn't draw to Wigan, Fulham and lose to Aston Villa we would have been right up there with Man United, it just goes to show you should win matches rather than looking for a point when your rivals lose matches. We need to forget neymar, A ) His not good enough and B ) His already agreed a deal with Barcalona for after the 2014 World Cup, so there is no chance. I agree totally we do need one big world class striker and midfielder, Cavani would be great because it would weaken Napoli in the process, Pato would be the best signing though, guys unreal and Brazillian which is a big plus, don't see how Milan don't even rate him as one of their best, his still only 21/22
mehhhhhhhhhhh... Cavani won't cut it in the EPL without someone of the calibre of Marek Hamsik and Ezequiel Lavezzi giving him the supply, it won't work. If it did, we wouldn't need him anyway, Torres wold be banging them in. Having said that, he does seem to like scoring against lesser opposition, something we seem to have a problem with... EDIT: Why are we not going after someone in the Zola mould ? Sitting just off the target man as a second striker (NOT an attacking midfielder) creative, agile, quick feet... Higuain would be nice or Stevan Jovetic but links to those 2 seem to have gone off the boil. Bah!!!
Quite a puzzle really. Would our strikers score with better service from a creative midfielder like Hamsik/ Sjneider ?? Or do we need better striker like Pato/ Cavani, or my choice Higuan??? Or both of the above ??
Torres will come good if given the right service and we play to his strengths. Therefore I'd be inclined to try and get more creativity into the midfield. Hamsik is a fine player as is Muller and both with an eye for goal too.
My thoughts as well. More game time should see Torres fire up. I'd like to see he and Sturridge up front with Mata in behind.He's no Zola yet, but Mata looks as if he could play the role Zola did with Jimmy Floyd and Eidur. That wasn't too shabby.
I think Torres will flourish with a good run in the team. Look at the start he made to the season. Started scoring, playing well. Then he got sent off and was restricted to cameos. He will benefit from Drogba leaving the clu, I have no doubt about this. As for someone in the Zola mould, we already have him. Juan Mata. We just need to play him in a more central role. After all, wasn't he bought to supply Torres? All we need IMO is a good, strong central defender, a right back and a couple of wide players with pace.
Some good points here - personally I would be inclined to go for someone like Cavani as for the other prospects; Neymar & Pato have messed us around too much and the Hulk has a ridiculous price tag (100M Euros ur avin a larf). Whilst I hope and pray that Torres comes good its wise to bring in another option given the struggle we had so far this season. Other priority must be to get a central defender and a creative midfielder mucho pronto.
