Chelsea are being linked with a fresh move for Porto manager Andre Villas-Boas, according to Sky Sports. The 'new Mourinho' was one of the leading contenders for the vacant manager's position when Carlo Ancelotti left the club. But over the last couple of weeks it had seemed likely it was just a case of when Guus Hiddink would take charge. But Porto president Pinta da Costa has reiterated that he is powerless to stop the young manager leaving amid reports that Chelsea are back in for him. Serie A side Inter Milan made an approach for the 33-year-old over the weekend, but were scared off by his â¬15million (£13.2m) release clause. Roman Abramovich has no such concerns. Jose Mourinho's protege has already worked at Chelsea under him, as well as at Porto and Inter Milan. He quit Mourinho's backroom set-up in 2009 to launch his own managerial career. Da Costa admits he cannot stand in his coach's way. He said: "Villas Boas has a contract and a clause of â¬15million. "If someone deposits â¬15million into our account and he wants to go, we can not do anything because it is something that is contractually specified." Chelsea are still in talks with Turkey coach Guus Hiddink and he remains the favourite for the job. But there is now a suggestion that Villas-Boas could get the main job, with Hiddink in a sporting director role.
In one sense this really excites me, like a mark 2 Jose. However, given his age (33!!) and experience, I wonder if he could control a dressing room containing the Drogbas, Terrys, Anelkas etc... Hiddink as DOF and Boas as manager definetely has the potential to be great though. And Boas has won more in one year than 'arry in his whole careeer!!
Have read this everywhere this morning re Villa-Boas and Falcao. Would take both but would like Hiddink to be in the picture too.
I think that Guus will come in as director of football. I am just hoping that Villas-Boas gets some time as this is a big leap up for him. If he can just get Torres scoring that will be a good omen for him.

When Carlo got sacked this was the guy I was hoping we would go for. He seems like a really talented manager who has already worked with a lot of the current Chelsea team when he was a coach under mourinho. His Porto team plays some really nice football and I would love Chelsea to play with the same attacking mentality. 15mil is a lot but I suppose money isnt really an issue. I still think that Hiddink is more likely to get the job and I would be happy enough with him in charge but I personally would prefer this guy to take over.
Looks like this is all but confirmed. Apparently Porto waiting for compensation to come through before it's official.
Funny how in my thread about David Villa I stated I would rather have Falcao Quality striker and reminds me of a pacier Crespo
I just hope your owner gives him time, a coach like this at the age he is could be your manager for a long time it won't always go his way but there is no doubt he is a talented coach.
Think it mainly depends if he can keep mr abramovich happy but I think he will do a really good job, but he needs time, control of all transfers and not be forced to play someone just cos they cost a lot of money. also hope a few bad results won't end up with Hiddink being linked with the job when he finishes with Turkey. Would have thought if he could bring Hulk across as well he could be a replacement for Anelka?
I don't get why he would move to Chelsea. Yes, it is a very interesting job where he will be able to manage some of the world's best but, if he doesn't win the Champions league (which is likely) or the premiership, then he'll be out of the job. Plus the pressure that he will be constantly compared to Mourinho.
Firstly, Carlo was not sacked becuase he failed to win the league / C.L. He was sacked because we had gone backwards in Europe since his arrival (didn't make it past the quarters in either season) and had our worst league campaign since Roman took over. Our points haul was far too low and I'll never know how we finished 2nd given our form Nov-Jan. I guess we will have to thank arsenal's usual 'run in' fall apart for that. It was harsh on Carlo who had won the double the year before but he raised the bar and then failed to meet it. Had we come 2nd in the league with 90 points and lost in the champs league final, he wouldn't have been sacked. As for Boas, maybe it's the chance to do what no-one has ever achieved and win the C.L for Chelsea. He's only been at Porto a year and he's already achieved as much as can be reasonably expected to and unless he wins the C.L with them (very unlikely) he will never quite reach Jose's status there. However with us, he has a chance to do something Jose never managed to acheive with us. That plus a shed load of case and to manage one of Europe's current heavyweights, seems like too good an oppotunity for a young and hungry manager to pass up. He could stay at Porto, have a bad season and might never get a chance like this again.
