Chelsea FC get caught up in ***** allegations

  1. Just been listening to the BBC News and the top story at 6pm was about child abuse allegations at Chelsea FC. Details are sketchy, but it is being claimed that the club paid off an abuse victim to keep him quiet. No details have yet been disclosed as to whom the ***** was.

If these allegations turn out to be true, I suspect that most of you on this forum will want to join me in thoroughly condemning the club. I suspect that the decent CFC fans will want to mark their disapproval by disavowing their support of the club and supporting QPR or West Ham.

    Your thoughts, lads, are welcome.

Given the extreme sensitivity of this subject, I would gratefully ask for a strict adherence to our usual no-wumming policy. Thanks.

Not going to try and have a pop at Chelsea fans over this. Should probably be closed.

  3. Why close?

This topic is going to be huge in the press and other media over the next few days, and Chelsea is the biggest club to be implicated. Other clubs may well be implicated in due course.

You can't censor a topic just because it's distasteful.

One of the reasons being cited for the abuse that seems to have been endemic in the football league is that clubs turned a blind-eye to it.

Is that what you propose we all continue to do, Luvvy?

I think your intention is to have a go at Chelsea fans other than discuss a sensitive subject. Just getting that from the OP.

  5. Chelsea Football Club has confirmed it has begun an investigation into allegations of historical sexual abuse concerning a now-deceased individual it employed in the 1970s. A number of forces including the Metropolitan Police, Greater Manchester Police and Cheshire Police had previously announced they were investigating historical allegations.

  6. No, it isn't.

However, I think I am permitted to invite Chelsea fans to comment on the news that is unfolding.

I don't really like talking about this stuff to be honest it's all a bit horrible.

  10. That is being cited as one of the reasons why this kind of abuse proliferated at so many clubs.

Some topics are extremely painful. Does that mean that we shouldn't debate them?

    Your missing my points.

I personally don't like talking about it as it's horrible, I have no problem with people debating it but just felt the OP was a bit inappropriate as it is designed to have a pop at Chelsea fans and get a reaction from them, other than actually debating the point.

You say it's not designed to do that I think it is... End of our little debate.

  12. Okay.

Well, I hope that there are people on this forum who do have the courage to debate this topic.

On the way home from one of my consultancies, at the end of last week, I spent a fair amount of time listening to radio debates, following the allegations made against Crewe FC. What I found interesting is the fact (as alleged by several of the abuse victims) that the club must have known what was going on, but turned a blind-eye to everything. As children, the victims looked to other adults for protection, and, in that regard, were utterly failed. Now, as adults, they are coming to terms with their anger that those who could have intervened and prevented the abuse, failed to do so.

By the looks of things, this is going to be as big as Operation Yew Tree (which followed in the wake of the allegations of child sex abuse against Jimmy Savill). It isn't just Chelsea that looks to be in the firing line. I have highlighted the allegations against CFC, because it is the first Premier League club to be cited in the allegations.

One suspects that there will be a Witch Hunt currently raging among those hack journos who slaver after this kind story. Woe betide any club with skeletons in their closet.

Not sure why people didn't come forward earlier, sickening for the sport if the numbers we're being fed are correct. Could be any club though tbf.

Anyone interested in Child Abuse should watch 'Spot Light' - cracking film about the truth behind the catholic church scandal. That's proper horrific.

HIAG - the fact that you 'invite' Chelsea fans to support another London club leads me to doubt your stated reason for starting this thread.
