The Sunday Times has been informed that Chelsea officials approached representatives of the Tottenham Hotspur manager towards the end of last month to discuss the possibility of him filling the vacant position.

While Pochettino holds reservations about the scale of restructuring work required at Stamford Bridge, the champions are understood to have been encouraged by the discussions.

Why would he even consider this? Someone at Spurs must still have AVB's contact details.

Probably right, but it's interesting that Chelsea are 'encouraged' by the discussions with Pochettino.

He's obviously given them some indication that he's open to the possibility.

Or it's just a made up story to fill a few columns? Last week Conte was such a certainty to join Chelsea that one poster started 24 new threads about him on the Chav board.

He'd be a mug to go, more like. Sounds like a less than subtle tapping up attempt by the Russian fraudster!...

Possibly. You would have thought they would have just reported that they'd approached him and been met with a rebuttal if that was the case though. The fact that they are encouraged and pochettinho has spoken about the rebuilding needed seems to suggest that there have been some fairly extensive discussions.

This. Lets go through the list of managers they've had in the last 10 years. Even their ONLY ever club legend was sacked... twice <laugh>

Poch would be insane to go to a club that has lost the ONLY advantage they held over the rest of the league ie. money.

The Sunday Times is part of the Murdoch empire. Sky are part of the Murdoch empire. Chelsea are one of the Sky five. Anyone with even a single figure IQ can see the connection.

Always makes me laugh when these stories come up...the press (if they ain't lying) are missing a big obvious point...MP is under contract at Spurs therefore contacting him without approaching spurs constitutes illegal (in football terms) tapping up.

The last time they did this was back in 2006 when they approached us for Frank Arnesen (our then DoF) and when we said no, they wrote to him. They got him cos he demanded to go but chelsea had to make a massive payment to us for him, were warned by the league and apparently had to agree to to bid for any of our staff for 4 years. When they came in for Modric we simply refused to deal with them.
Arnesen was a failure at Chelsea and quietly went back to Holland 3 or 4 yrs later with a shed load of money and Modric went to Real Madrid a year after we refused to sell him to Chelsea.

If Chelsea has tapped up MP by approaching his people without asking spurs for permission then that is the actual story imo.

I have no faith in any player or coach or manager to see out their contract with us as money talks.

Robbie Keane wrecked his premier league career when he demanded a move to Liverpool (after more illegal approaches)...they paid £20m and he came back with his tail between his legs for £12m six months later and a year later was being loaned out to get him away from spurs until we sold him to the MLS for £6m.
He could have been a legend at spurs but chose money.

I have no doubt that MP will leave but I also find it weird that fans find are not concerned about this behaviour.
The press here seem to behave like mouth piece for the "big " clubs.
Sky, talksport and the press have tapped up countless spurs players on behalf of "big" clubs.
There are already stories of Alli to PSG, Real, United and City around, Kane to united, Real, Arsenal, chelsea and Barca have been around for the past year, Lloris to United and PSG, Toby to city, Rose to to united and city etc.
Then when a player demands to leave they call the club a selling club and claim it lacks ambition!
This is happening to all our clubs...how long before Leicester and west ham are asset stripped? It won't be because the players are want by buying club...it will be to stop you becoming a threat...players seem to be stupid and greedy and don't look at the number of players whose careers went backwards or were wasted by joining a big club and never playing.

I find this situation (the tapping up) grim...I wish the "big" clubs would get their own way and **** off to form their super league so the rest of us can go back to enjoying football.

Some very good examples using Arneson and Keane there.

I think what RCL is saying is that it's best for all concerned that their players and coaches move to United.

It's total hokum and media BS, it's as laughable as Bale to Madrid.

And, if it's true, almost as blatant a tap up as what is going on with that Berahino fella.

  19. So, let me get this right.

Poch has previously stated that the only clubs that would attract his attention are Barca and Real (although, I haven't seen what he actually said, if indeed he did say that), yet now he's jumping the chance to take the poison chalice at Chelsea?

After Bale, I'm never going to say that "such and such" will never happen (when it comes to transfers), but what I will say is that Poch would lose all respect he has earned from me if he goes to Chelsea. Fcuk off to Real or Barca, by all means, and spend a season in Spain before being sacked, but Chelsea?

    I cannot see it happening.

If I was Pochettino, I'd actually feel insulted! I mean the gangster has tapped up everybody from Ancelotti on down. Must be flattering to know that you're about his sixth choice, after everybody else has told him to do one!
