Ivory Coast are out of the ACON, despite a goal from our own lovable monster, so he should be back in our first team before long, and we can witness the slightly orgasmic trio of Cabaye, Sissoko and Tiote in centre midfield! Happy days people!

Agree Tash - awesome midfield. Would suggest we're not far off having one of the best defences when everyone is fit (on paper at least). Certainly one of the best goalkeepers. Need Cisse to get his form back and thats one of the best strikers. Ben Arfa, best right wing forward when on form. Gouffran... not exactly a weak spot on first two appearances. Future looks bright.

    From NUFC.com

Despite registering his first competitive international goal, Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote was part of the Ivory Coast side who exited at the Quarter Final stages of the African Cup of Nations on Sunday.

Trailing at half time to Nigeria in Rustenburg, Tiote was left unmarked at a free kick and duly headed home to to level the tie at 1-1 in the 50th minute.

However the Super Eagles scored again with 13 minutes of normal time remaining and held out with some ease to advance to the last four and dump the favourites out.

PS: there's also interest in Sunday's fourth Quarter Final, where victory for Togo over Burkina Faso would prolong Emmanuel Adebayor's participation in the tournament ahead of our visit to Spurs on Saturday.

That has assumed further importance after Spurs lost Jermain Defoe to an ankle injury during their 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns on Sunday. He later left the ground wearing a protective boot and will have a scan this week. He's withdrawn from the England squad for the midweek friendly against Brazil.

So, let's hope for a Togo win to keep Spurs short of strikers!!

Normally I'd agree but he has had a poor season and Perch has had 2 excellent games in there. Nice problem to have I suppose.

Strange isn't it how you can be in the depths of despair one minute and then be buzzing with eager anticipation the next. Pards will have selection dilemmas and that is great for him and great for competition within the team.
Tiote straight back in for me and see how he goes, it's fantastic to know that if he or anyone else for that matter is off form, we have replacements nipping at their ankles for a starting position.
We are looking awesome, at least on paper, can't wait to see just how good our first choice team could be.
    Happy Days !

Also Tiote has just scored at the ACON so hopefully he'll be wanting to grab another for us as well

Indeed but some of the morons at the home games need to show some nous too

"shooooot" bellows out, and the ball flys into orbit yet again! I throw my head in my hands for the 57th time in two seasons in disbelief at their stupidity.

Yes he's had his moment with that, an unrepeatable experience for us all I would imagine, I couldn't help wondering if it will be the same with Jonas after his header on Saturday, will he be like a leaping salmon from now on. <laugh>

He should be offering support at the back stick more often, particularly with Cisse on his own. What a leap it was!
