Cheeky bet

Just put a cheeky pre-season bet on. Hull city to finish top 1/20, thats gotta be worth a shout?

Anyone else got any bets placed??

I hope you mean 20/1.

I'm not placing it, but looking at the odds Ladbrokes are offering on the PL title for Man U and Chelsea I think I can get 1/2 for either of them to win the league. If you stuck £8 on each (£16 total) and one of them won you'd get either £21 or £28 back depending which it was. Adjust the balance of the stakes a bit and you'll get it to about £24 or £25 back whichever won. It's not a brilliant return, but it does look quite a safe bet if you're prepared to tie the money up for 9 months, and as it's 50% it's better than the interest in the bank. Personally I haven't got enough cash to make it worthwhile, and I play around with my money a lot so I can make a better return than that so long as I don't get greedy with my betting.

I might put some money into that, although if Man City win the league I'll be at your doorstep <laugh>

Just worked it out for you.

Man U @ 13/8 - £9.14 returns £23.99
Chelsea @ 5/2 - £6.86 returns £24.01

ie £16 of bets returns £24 if either of them wins.

Man City are 7/2, £5.34 returns £24.03.

If you add them in though you're making it £2.60 profit from a £21 bet so you're really reducing the value, and you can guarantee that it would make it Liverpool's year this year if you did.

Oh, and QPR are 7/4 for relegation if you're looking at the other end.

Thanks, I've actually found slightly better odds on Chelsea, 11/4 with Sky Bet. I started betting 6 months ago (when I turned 18 basically) and still don't understand the concept of 'each way'. I understand it when it comes to horse racing but say if I bet each way on Man Utd would that mean I would still gain some money if they finished in the top 2 or top 4 or..? :S

It varies what places/rates they pay out on. Ladbrokes (I'm really not employed by them, I've just got their PL bets in front of me) are paying 1/3 of the odds for top 2 in the league, but 1/4 odds for the top 4 in the top scorer.

But with Man U at 13/8 if you put £1 e/w (£2 total stake) and they finished 2nd you'd get £1.54 back (losing 46p). If they won you'd get £4.17 back, compared to £5.25 if you bet the same £2 on them to win the league.

Basically it's not worth doing e/w bets unless you're putting them on longer odds.

To be honest i dont gamble at all so just abit of a fun bet, not much money involved. Just got back from canada to see everything going well in pre-season, looks like ive missed alot.

i wonder what odds you can get on this perm..... Hull City going up. Leicester and West Ham NOT going up and Leeds Utd and Birmingham getting relegated ?

Is it possible with online betting to mix and match such things ? as i am not really a gambler i do flutter once a year.
