    Newcastle United have been closely watching talented teenager Che Adams with a view to a January signing.

    Despite Alan Pardew insisting that United are focusing on local kids, Newcastle scouts have watched the 18 year old midfielder a number of times.

    che adamsAdams currently plays for Ilkeston in the Evo-Stik Premier Division and while it is obviously a major leap from there to a Premier League club, time is very much on his side.

    As a sign of his potential and progress, Che Adams has just been called up for an England C training camp, England C is for players who are playing at non-league level.

    However, every other player in the ‘C’ squad are playing in the Conference, which is the fifth tier of English football. As the sole player called up from outside that fifth tier, Adams currently plays in the eighth tier with Ilkeston, showing just how much he has caught the eye.

    Naturally Adams hasn’t gone unnoticed elsewhere and a posse of scouts have been watching the young midfielder, said to include Southampton, Norwich, Sunderland and Newcastle, amongst many others.

    Ilkeston chairman Dave Mantle: said:

    “It’s hardly surprising Che Adams is getting so much attention because he has been in brilliant form and has been a major force in our promising start to the season. We think he’s a really talented all-round player – an exceptional prospect at our level of the game.

    “We’re an ambitious club, keen to get to Conference North as quickly as possible, and Che is key to our chances of achieving that this season.”

    Won’t stand in his way;

    “We have to be sensible and it would be wrong of us to stand in his way if a good opportunity arises for him to move to a higher level.

    “I’m adamant that Che Adams will only leave Ilkeston when the time is right for him and for us.”

    If this interest is followed up with any kind of a deal, then just like loaning Darlow and Lascelles back to Forest, it would be likely a similar arrangement could be offered to allow Adams to stay on to the end of the season.

    As a further sign that he is attracting attention further afield, Che Adams has even been snapped up by an agent, with coincidentally it being former Newcastle winger Lee Payne.

    Having lived most of my younger life in Scotland and North Yorkshire, and playing football with kids, then teens, in those parts, it was a major shock when I'd moved to Newcastle and played football with mates here. Honestly, I was in awe of the talent amongst this group.

    This region is so passionate about football, and it really soaks into the areas parks, astro-pitches etc, that I'm genuinely surprised our club doesn't do more in this area, instead of looking at cheap foreign players or footballers from all over the country. It would be cheaper still to unearth talent here.

    Why would anyone call their child Che? I mean get a picture of a left wing revolutionary for your wall if he is some sort of hero to you but no need to scar your child with this.

    My Grandson's called Sonny and whilst he's only 7 months old I know by the time he's 3 he will be ready for first team action. If we sign Che Adams and my grandson............well, what a pairing!!
