As I'm too idle to do my own Match Day thread, and the Bury one I came across was just insulting, I've lifted this one, entirely without permission, from Footy Mad and embellished it where necessary.

"The game between Bury and Charlton Athletic in League One on 27th August 2011 at 15:00 takes centre stage for FootyMad's preview analysis.

History of the Bury v Charlton Athletic fixture

Bury play host to Charlton Athletic at Gigg Lane on Saturday afternoon, and hold the advantage on previous meetings between the two. Of the 16 games played, The Shakers have recorded 8 wins, and Charlton Athletic have come away with 4 victories.

The last time the two teams met at Bury was more than a decade ago, in August 1997, when they played out a goalless draw in a League Division One match.

    Recent encounters between the teams

    Season Date Comp
1997/1998 Sat 31 Jan Charlton Ath. 0 - 0 Bury League Division One
1997/1998 Sat 23 Aug Bury 0-0 Charlton Ath. League Division One
    1992/1993 Wed 07 Oct Charlton Ath. 0 - 1 Bury League Cup
    1992/1993 Tue 22 Sep Bury 0 - 0 Charlton Ath. League Cup
    1974/1975 Sat 19 Apr Charlton Ath. 0 - 1 Bury Third Division
    1974/1975 Sat 12 Oct Bury 2 - 1 Charlton Ath. Third Division
    1968/1969 Tue 08 Oct Charlton Ath. 2 - 2 Bury Second Division

    Recent respective form guides

Bury, fresh from their promotion last season have won one and lost one at home this season and so far have picked up more points and scored more goals away from home.

Charlton Athletic have won both their games on the road this season, scoring four times and conceding only once.

Bury's total of 7 points from their 4 games sees them sitting in the final playoff place in npower League One.

Charlton Athletic are holding the second automatic promotion place in the npower League One, and have accumulated 10 points from the 4 games they have played so far.

    FootyMad's prediction...

These are testing times at Gigg Lane for the The Shakers and the Madmen are unable to see past Charlton Athletic claiming victory in a close match.

    Team Sequences

Bury 14 games since last home draw
Not drawn a match in their last 5

Charlton Athletic 4 games since last away draw
    7 games since last defeat"

I remember the 1974-5 game at The Valley well - it was won by a marvelous individual goal by one of the most dynamic forwards of the time, Derek Spence, who ran from close to the halfway line, beating several challenges, before slotting into the corner.

Today's encounter sees us up against one of the lower divisions' most prolific strikers, Ryan Lowe. No spring chicken at 32, he's hitting the best form of his career and is averaging better than a goal every other game. IMO, there's no real point in trying to snuff out a player like this (something we're disastrously bad at anyway) but it's more a question of restricting his service from midfield and opportunities to score. the temptation for CP to pack midfield must be overwhelming.

The teams come into this game with slightly mixed fortunes from their midweek League Cup games - The Addicks memorable victory over Reading, after making 11 changes from their last-gasp draw against Scunthorpe, giving CP some very welcome selection problems - contrasting with Bury's spririted but ultimately disappointing result against Leicester City.

Too close to call this one, IMO.

    Come On You Reds!

Nice one, Tewks. Great article - even if it is stolen.

If we keep Lowe shackled, we will win. I would love to see us sign the guy. Surely 250k would be enough?

My first trip to Gigg Lane was during the great 97/98 season. It was a bore-draw. Dean Kiely was their keeper back then.

I say a 3-1 win for the Addicks. BWP, Jackson and Green.

    BWP will not score!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just back from the U18 game and he was there with Forts, he picked up a knee injury in training yesterday :(

So who will be front two? or will we play just one up front with an extra midfielder?

Blimey! That is a blow. Any estiamte on the injury lay-off, AllHell?

We should play Hayes up with Euell. Or perhaps one of them up front with Waggy in behind.

    2-1 to us.

He said to me that it is not too bad and not on his bad knee.

Forts said he needed another 2 months.

Harry Osbourne was walking around OK but did not talk to him so not sure how much longer he will be out.

We will show our versatility and squad depth again, a resounding 4-0, with stephens bagging a brace.

Kept it well quiet about BWP - should satisfy those who've been calling to see Waggy up front, but I have to say that my option would have been to go with Euell - you watch Waggy get a hat-trick now I've said that.

Excellent to see Mambo and Pritchard on the bench as well.

Waggy in an advanced role...This'll be interesting. Could this be a defining moment in young waggys footballing career? I hope so...In a good way!

I would have liked Pritchard to play in the middle with Hollands. He deserves the place as Stephens has looked laboured in the last two matches.

So we find out something today, Can Waggy actually be a starting striker, can we survive without BWP. Does it mean Robbies gone. Mental toughness away this season in adversity, who knows. Interesting

I see Sheffield United beat Yeovil earlier on today. A good win will see us back on top, though.

I had a Sharpe book sent to me by Waterstone's last week and ironically Waterstone's packed it in double the bubblewrap. Waterstone's are like the Vic and Bob of bookshops.

Looking at the previous meetings between the sides, I think it'll be a 1-0, not sure which way though. Anyone care to join me on the fence?

Seems very even so far, no one dominating yet. I want to see green make his mark today, tear them apart !
