@DickPlumb knows his football, whilst I don't. So please forgive me for talking (more)b*******.

England winning the World Cup or Charlton winning the FA Cup, what would you prefer?

I'd even go for us winning the Checkatrade over the World Cup.

It has been my dream, since I started supporting Charlton, at the age of seven, fifty eight years ago, to see Charlton play in and win an FA Cup final. So I will go with that. I have already seen England win a World Cup on a black and white TV at my Mum and Dad’s.

A tough one for me but I might just go for Charlton winning the FA Cup.

This is a bit like asking who did you love the most … your Mum or your Dad …. isn't it?

Charlton is intimate, England is having a ride on the village bike , enjoyable but not exclusive

England win the World Cup? <laugh>
Charlton have more chance of winning the Champion's League.

I'd rather see Charlton beat Millwall in any competitive game than see England win the World Cup.

That doesn't apply to the England womens' team though.
Good luck to them, I hope they win everything there is out there to win.

It was a very close call in the summer Mr Lardiman.

    Close call?

    We beat Panama.
    We beat Tunisia.
We beat Columbia on penalties when their best player was out injured.
We beat Sweden, who have never played poorer than they did that day.

And when England came up against some decent teams?

    We lost against Croatia.
We lost against Belgium - twice.

Bang average, dressed up in contrived World Cup fever.
    I'm surprised Gareth wasn't given a Knighthood.

Which part of my post was not correct?
We were beaten by Croatia, and Belgium - twice.
    Hardly Italia '90 was it.

If the truth is bollocks that's hardly my fault.
The England football team are a bunch of pampered, privileged celebrity millionaires who've won absolutely nothing for their country.
Everything is given to them on a silver platter, and I'm supposed to admire them?
I doubt if there's one player among them who is even honest enough to pay all tax he's liable for in the UK.

When they actually achieve something I might respect them a bit.

A bit unfair on the current crop Lardi - most of them have only been in the England squad for a year or two - which means they played in one competition and finished 4th. To me they look young and hungry. Will they win a competition? Who knows - ther can be only one winner, and last summer was a wonderful chance that maybe came too soon. but they are trying and looking good. Why kick them for previous generations of footballers? If Charlton go up next season with a record 102 points total, are you going to loathe them because of some of the players Dreisen bought in who have since gone? Anyway, as a Brexiteer you should be more patriotic <cheers>

We got to the World Cup semi finals. That is something for England to celebrate. Yes we didn’t have to play the strongest teams, but you still have to beat what is in front of you. We have come a cropper against Iceland and other teams in the past. Your point about pampered Footballers is a whole different subject. It is market forces, they are paid what the Clubs are willing to pay them. Southgate has galvanised the England squad and players want to play for him and England again. That is a good thing isn’t it?
This is my last post on this subject and Powell, as we appear to be going round in circles.

Italia 90 whilst it was fantastic watching on a tiny TV in a pub, the results were also over hyped , we drew with Ireland, Holland and just scrapped past Egypt and then struggled against Belgium and Cameroon , only to lose to Germany playing our best game.
We also then were piss poor in the meaningless 3 rd place game.[/QUOTE]

Anyway to answer the question, I want both. I did a deal in my head when we played Sunderland at Wembley, that if we went up I'd not mope if England were rubbish in the summer. I got both and Charlton warmed me when England failed. But since then, I don't horse trade. I want England to win the nations cup this summer and Charlton to go up to the Championship. One won't compensate the other (though given the teams involved, neither is a real option) so I may be riotously happy one day and sad a month later. But I love it when my teams win - what's football if you take the passion away?

If you genuinely would prefer Charlton to win the Checkatrade than England to win the world cup, you are probably in need if profesional help - much more than we can provide on here.
Have you seen how good that Chelsea lad Odoi looks? Only 18. We'll have him playing for Bowyer when the Aussies take over.

Another great result which has proved a difficult venue, 5-1 wasn't it? That will upset some on here, Come on Engerland.
