A couple of thoughts. 1. Over 400 votes so far, which equates to about 8% of our current attending fan base. The result - 76% citing disapproval of the Muir bid, confirms what anecdotally many of us have been hearing from boycotting fans. 2. It didn’t have to be this way. Muir and Co should have handled it so much better than they have. It’s incredible that Paul Elliott - a long term football man, is associated with this bid considering the way it has been communicated. An NDA is an NDA. It’s no good allegedly finding ways to tell a very disillusioned fan base how hopeful and optimistic you are, when every deadline slips by and eventually all you get is silence and innuendo. They should have said nothing throughout, especially given their circumstances as things have turned out. Boasting about a 5 year plan for the Premier League was hubristic in the extreme, particularly when our temporary manager is struggling to field a fit starting 11 for a League One fixture this Saturday. 3. My final, more general point is that this poll just reiterates how unrepresentative a small group of people on a certain thread on a certain forum actually are of our wider fan base. ‘‘Twas always the case ...
Presumably, when you say ‘76% citing disapproval of the Muir bid’ you mean the way it was handled - as the question asked - and not their proposed takeover in general?
Correct. The way they have handled it, including their disastrous PR. The poll has just closed - 445 votes, and 76% not happy with the Aussies. This will be dismissed in tiny quarters elsewhere as “trolling”.
This whole take-over subject is getting seriously boring. Yes I believed in it for a few weeks, because Bexleyboy was saying things that fans like me (who wanted the take-over to happen) wished to hear. OK that was naive of me. I should have realised that nothing good would come of it. Roll on the summer of 2019, when the cost-cutting really ramps up.
Cost cutting in 2019 ? There will be nothing left to cut. Even Naby Sarr is out of contract next summer.
That's what I mean. Our wage bill will drop about 80% overnight. Trouble is you can't play a season with six players, so in will come ten real hardcore crocks and journeymen, and ten teenagers, all being paid peanuts. Result - substantial savings for Roland and certain relegation. He can then close the North and West upper tiers for the L2 season, and start working out how he can sell the Valley without the Council stopping him. The above scenario is now more likely in my opinion than a successful take-over by anybody (never mind the Australians) between now and May next year.
To be fair, only half a dozen deluded Apologists including Jonstool [sic] can't now see the way its going. Even Reams hasn't flip flopped for months. We need this appalling owner out ASAP, just our luck that we have attracted the buyer we have. Giving Bauer a new contract is an insurance policy for when we are in the relegation zone come January.
i've had a small idea at the back of my mind for a while.... that the aussies are a group that have been setup to placate the fans for a period of time while roland does as much damage as he can (pilfering) going unquestioned. if you think about it, it's worked a treat. no protests in 8 months, no new protest groups and even less protesters attending next season. it seems and feels like we've been fed tiny bits of dross every now and then to stop any sort of uprising.
I’ve decided that I am going to slavishly cheerlead for the Aussies, regardless. I have no idea whether they have £25m or 25p, and I don’t care that their “interest” has lasted longer than the Mousetrap. I just want to ostentatiously and publicly show that I love this Aussie bid. WIOTOS.
NLA, the only reliable ITK, believes the Aussies outbid the Saudis, which is why Roland favoured the Aussie bid and the Saudis withdrew. This shows the Aussies in a new light for me, we could have new owners by now.
Sources close to NLA and I have been in contact and fair to say he called it right all along he said months ago the Aussies didn’t have the funds ....sure enough genuine long terms fans were led down the garden path again until just before the season starts when it’s all but confirmed in the SLP ....the Aussies don’t have the funds
I scanned the Directors Box at Sunderland today. No sign of Andrew Muir, Gerald Murphy, Paul Elliott, or even Skippy the Bush Kangaroo. Be honest.. .is anyone really surprised? Zabeel Mark 2
