    Attendances are rising slowly.

    Yesterday had the biggest crowd of the season so far I think - according to official numbers anyway.
    The average home attendance is now less than 1,300 down on last season.

    29th December update;

    Barnsley 2-1 Charlton Athletic

    I cannot comment in detail about a match I did not attend, but it sounds as though Charlton made a real fight of this game after a poor start, conceding two early (if well taken) goals.
    Yes the match was lost, and Barnsley got all 3 points. But there was no collapse, no humiliating scoreline. And over this season it's honours even with Barnsley - one home win each in the league.

    There is a long way to go, and hope for promotion is still very much alive at the end of 2018.
    Here's hoping that Lee Bowyer, Johnnie Jackson and the lads can carry on giving everything they have and fighting for every point in 2019. We can't ask any more than that really.

    Well done to all the travelling Charlton fans, I hope your journey home is not too awful despite the result and the transport troubles.

    attendance; 11,978 (564 from Charlton)

    1st January update;

    Charlton Athletic 2-1 Walsall

    A winning start to 2019, mostly thanks to a terrific start to the game then seeing the result out in the second half.
    I wasn't at the Valley but I have seen reports of a third Charlton goal disallowed as well. Possibly not a classic performance, but considering the long injury list 3 points towards the end of the very busy Christmas schedule is a valuable result.

    In four days comes one of the biggest home games of the season - Sunderland come to SE7. I will be there for that match, so I hope I can give some personal insights into the team's performance afterwards.

    attendance: 10,396 (172 from Walsall)
