Also don't forget that the students from Thames Polytechnic were given offers of a fiver a ticket for yesterday's match plus a drink as well. If they thought outside the box they could have got in for a pound, bought a coke cola and still had change out of a five pound note
24th October update; Charlton Athletic 1-1 Oxford United A very disappointing second half display saw Charlton throw away two points after a first half where Oxford offered almost nothing. We seemed to lose our edge after the break, while Oxford began to break through our previously stout defences. Definitely after the Lord Mayor's show. Gobbo got some early abuse, though that (like the vocal home support) faded along with our performance on the pitch as time passed. Ricky Holmes was booed from start to finish, walking off late in the game to a loud chorus of "One greedy bastard, there's only one greedy bastard" from the North stand. Charlton were applauded off at half time, but the full time whistle brought no celebration. Our team failed to apply any pressure during stoppage time - indeed it was Oxford who had a last punt at winning the game, fortunately high and wide. A medoicre evening in the end, not helped by a poor (though not atrocious) refereeing performance and so-so attendance. Attendance: 9,984 (538 from Oxford)
27th October update; Rochdale 1-0 Charlton Athletic Though we have not had a report directly from an away fan who was at the game, indications are this was a poor display from the Addicks. Perhaps we deserved a point, but it was not to be. Lyle Taylor missing a penalty (not for the first time this season) was a big moment. Perhaps Lee Bowyer ought to consider changing our designated penalty taker. Charlton are now out of the top half of the table. Two wins against Doncaster & Walsall (our game in hand) would put us back on course, but that is a very tough ask. Charlton might be hard pressed to win even one of those games, but we need points to avoid slipping even further down the table. Respect to those Charlton fans who made the long journey and came away with nothing to celebrate. Attendance: 3,109 (483 from Charlton)
4th November update; Charlton Athletic 2-0 Doncaster Rovers A low key game really, as the stats suggest. Charlton were too fast and too strong surging forward for Doncester to cope with; we should really have scored more than twice. Rovers offered only some nice movement when counter-attacking, but their moves were only effective when they were breaking on a defence struggling to regain position. In the second half especially we defended in numbers, and they could not break through more than a couple of times. Not a classic performance by any means, but we got the job done. Charlton are out of the bottom half of the table and looking upwards again. The crowd was very low again; even officially only 9,000 Charlton fans in attendance. In reality that was no more than 7,000 (and that is being generous) but they made a good noise for most of the game. We were never really in trouble. Attendance: 9,873 (617 from Doncaster)
They are based on the figures that are passed onto the press association just after half time at each home league game. We all know that to get an actual figure of people who are inside the ground, reduce it by 2/3 thousand.
7th November update; Walsall 0-2 Charlton Athletic Sounds like another professional display from Lee Bowyer and the team, a very good away win. A pity about the injuries incurred, but at least we have no league games now until 24th November. Back to 6th place Attendance: 3,719 (328 from Charlton)
24th November update; Charlton Athletic 3-1 Bristol Rovers Can't tell you how this game went because I wasn't there. I've had enough of Duchatelet, De Turck and their unceasing lies. Won't have anything further to do with CAFC until it has a new owner. I will continue to update these stats for the rest of the season, for the benefit of members who may be finding them useful. Attendance: 10,328 (number of Bristol Rovers fans not known)
