According to this News Shopper report; http://www.newsshopper.co.uk/sport/...ourt_over_rape_of_British_teenager__in_Ibiza/ In this country these people would be innocent until proven guilty, but I do not know how the Spanish Justice system operates. I know in some countries a person accused of a crime has at least some degree of requirement to prove their innocence. I know this subject has already been mentioned in the snippets thread, but I think it is serious enough to warrant a thread of its own. Also I'm not sure what the legal position would be regarding members speculating over the identity of the accused players. In the absence of more knowledge I would advise caution -- see AHLL's post just a bit further down.
If it's true that one of them filmed it, they won't really have a leg to stand on. 3 players that wil be sacked and need replacing - this might have a huge impact on the value of the club (depending who they are)!! Spanish legal system can take years!!
Banter aside, I am more concerned for the reputation of the Club I support rather than its value. Nothing has been proven yet but if players from our Club are found guilty of the crime as presently described it will be a matter of deep shame as far as I'm concerned. Players are ambassadors for their Clubs and role models for fans (especially young fans) whether they wish to be or not. If it is concluded that such prominent employees of CAFC are guilty of this, I hope the Club does everything it can reasonably do to help the victim recover, as well as (obviously) disassociating itself entirely from those convicted. As I said though, nothing has been proven or decided yet. The process is ongoing. Perhaps more information will be released soon.
Reading about it they video filmed this and that forensics came back that they had "sexually assaulted" a young British female. People lie, forensics rarely do... Terminate all contracts of players in question and they should be barred from professionally playing the sport irrespective of the league. Even if they are proven "not guilty" it's not acceptable behaviour and should still have their contacts terminated immediately without compensation. In this day and age it's abhorrent and people should be treated with respect and dignity, not like a f***ING rag doll to be passed around.
I agree that the modern recreational activity of some young footballers 'roasting' women in hotels is pretty disgusting. Too much money, too much time, too much 'gangsta' culture, too many inflated egos and too much energy to burn. Add empty-headed fame-hungry female fans with morals looser than their knickers and you have a recipe for mindless animal behaviour and plenty of potential for consent to be ignored. That is the unpleasant question which will have to be decided by a Judge or a Jury I suppose. Was there consent? The whole business will be a shameful mess for sure. It is doubtful anybody will come out of it with any credit. The issues of morality and criminality are separate ones though, even if they seem to overlap or blur together.
One young girl has had her life stolen and two/three footballers may have flushed their careers down the pan for the sake of what?..... something to brag about with their mates Such an avoidable thing to happen... perhaps four lives ruined..!
When we have a team full of women representing us and when this women's team is NOT controlled by a Belgian
The names of the two players accused are now out there, following Court proceedings this morning. The Daily Mirror has a video of the two players in handcuffs being led into Court.
A sorry business. I suppose the case now will revolve around the question of consent. Was the victim too intoxicated to give or withdraw consent, and was that intoxication voluntary on her part? The video footage will be vital evidence of course, but it won't tell the whole story. Just speculating of course. From the Club's point of view I cannot see how the two named players can feature in our pre-season work unless this matter is resolved in their favour (dropped) very quickly. Should the case go to a full trial, even if they are both acquitted their reputations and their footballing futures could well be badly damaged by the details revealed in court.
