There is report on the Chronicle website and in BBC gossip column today that we turned down an offer from QPR on deadline day to give us Charlie in return for Rolando Aarons plus 10million quid. The fact that we turned it down suggests we feel we intend to keep Aarons and he will sign a new contract.
Question is would you have done the deal if you were in Stevie's shoes?
I wouldnt have - would much rather see us develop young talent rather than buy in and hope that McLaren will work Aarons into first team this season.
    football.

Was it a permanent swap or a season long loan for Aarons? If it was a loan deal for Aarons I may have taken it!

No it was a permanent deal - it was essentially valuing him at 5million. Can't find an exact date for his contract expiry but it had 2years left to run earlier this year so cant be before 1st Jan 2017. I suppose for someobody who has played only a few minutes of Premier league football its not a bad price but we should be gambling on his potential. Apparently when we offered him a contract extension in 2014 it was at a measly 6000quid a week and it was rejected. it sounds like we have yet to go back with an improved offer.
I dont see why we couldn't structure something for the extension that started off at a relatively low number and then went up in steps as he reached certain milestones of First Team Games completed. trouble is knowing Ashley he would drop him when these milestones were close just to save us a bit of money.

No way would of taken that. We have got to make sure he gets plenty of game time this year tho or he will be off.

No. We need to get Aarons tied down. We also need to get him in the team. I honestly think this lad could make a massive difference. That's not to say I'd not have liked Austin, particularly as Mitro will need time and competition. I think we would look at Austin and think "lets see what happens with his contract". If he doesn't sign one and is available next summer for free, do we really need to pay that money out? Yes we may not get him and it would be nice to have it now, but perhaps we have other targets also.

If this is true, it is perhaps the most encouraging thing about the last transfer window
