Scottish midfielder Charlie Adam has completed his move to Liverpool. The former Blackpool man put pen to paper on his new contract on Thursday afternoon after successfully completing a medical. He's a good midfielder and if the £7M fee is true, we've got him for a good price. Your thoughts on this news?
Indeed. £7M would be an excellent fee for Adam. Regarding the contract, I ain't too bothered. I'd be surprised if he was on more than £60,000 a week and if we can ship out the deadwood, I think that wage isn't too bad considering what some players are on these days.
Well, whatever we may think of his strengths and weaknesses he's one of ours now. So welcome to the family Charlie
Interesting what Comolli says about 35% of goals coming from set pieces, as in my opinion Adam is a level above any corner taker i've seen in recent memory. Have always been surprised at how poor players generally are at corners and freekicks. Not to unnecessarily bring Utd up but having spoken to a mate who is a Utd fan we agreed Nani's corners are terrible (worst i saw last season in my subjective view), as he never beats the first man. Think they'd have run away with the league if they'd have had someone to put it on Vidic's bonce. Can see Adam doing even better than Barton did in providing Carroll with ammunition. Will be good turning up at the Britannia and bombarding even Arsene Wenger's favorite team! Mainly though he brings drive and a naturally attacking perspective on his football. One of the worst thing about watching us in recent years is watching the clock tick over and feeling like we're just not really going all out to score.
Always wanted him since we were first linked with him and more so now simply because he strikes me as being about as close to a Kenny type signing as I can imagine really. He's hard working, willing, passionate, decent left foot, takes a decent set piece, has room for improvement and most importantly absolutely itching to sign for us (same can probably be said for Downing too). Going into the new season we will have a really good engine room in midfield with players now much more willing to close down quickly and do the dirty work to protect our defence better than last season (Lucas, Spearing and Kuyt not included). What we will need to improve on within the current squad and with any more transfers in, is our distribution and ability to keep the ball a lot better especially when playing at pace...any chance of swapping Joe Cole and Poulsen for Alonso back please Mr Mourinho?
It is begining to look like we will have a midfield unit that is capable of changing games during a match.
Absolutely. There was a lot of talk about Kenny being out of touch, but how many managers would have been astute enough to play a 3-5-2 wing-back formation at Stamford Bridge that rendered them completely useless? We now have probably the most versatile midfield in the league, an option for every occasion. Just waiting now to see how we fill in the gaps.
We got him for £5 million less than the £12 million we offered in January.Excellent work Mr Comolli.Welcome aboard Charlie Adam.May your stay be a fruitful and successful one.
Having natural width is as much use as having Michael Carrick in a penalty area if you don't have a deep-lying play-maker.Possibly the next signing will be that natural width and then a left back and a centre back.Kenny has said he's far from finished. He expects at least 3 more signings.
I was waiting for the United midfield reference from you KPR - thanks for not disappointing. I think he is a good signing for you at 7 million and will add cover and variety to your midfield. I dn't think he will start more than 1 in 3 when everyone is fit but he will defiently improve your squad
The most important thing about Adam is that he's Scottish. Kenny bringing in Scottish and British talent, ring any bells?
I'm not starting anything like that; I'm asking when was the last time Kenny brought in Scottish and ENGLISH talent then?
Wasn't overly excited about this signing but he's a decent player, good value @ £7m and if it means Gerrard is off corner duty then I'm all for it! Can't take a corner to save his life that lad, he'd be much better off in the box getting his noggin on the ball or outside the area smashing them in from clearences and Charlie gives him that opportunity! (Going to throw my TV out the window if Gerrard takes the first corner of the season)
