I think the Adam bashing has to stop now, its just getting to much!!! Adam was our best player on sun played a major part in both the goals and was a rock in defence. Despite this people are still saying he is not good enough and i wish we had alonso back<wah>. Its time to stop living in the past, yes Alonso was a good player but Adam is better, why? because he has the desire to play for Liverpool and not for a team full of Beckham wannabes!

Not sure what you have been smoking but I want some!

Seriously, Alonso is classes above Charlie Adam. However, Adam is an adequate replacement considering our situation i.e. no Champions League football, building a British core etc.

I don't think he is better than Alonso at the moment but he could turn out to be just as good with a couple of year's experience at a top club.

I doubt that Adam will ever be as good as Alonso at his best, but people seem to forget that Alonso had a couple of distinctly average seasons for us and so if Charlie can maintain a consistent standard close to the best he's shown so far then she should be ok for a while.

I agree - Alonso was extremely poor prior to that one season however he has gone on from strength to strength. Possibly Real Madrids most important player after Ronaldo and I miss him everytime I see him spray one of those inch perfect long balls.

Technically -Adam is nowhere near as good as Alonso.
Game Intelligence - Alonso reads the game extremely well and dictates the play, far better than Adam.

I like Adam and I'm glad he;s in the team but comparisons with Alonso are ridiculous.

Against Stoke he gave so many balls away and it really frustrated me, then after that it was the Spurs sending off and I was one of his biggest critics. But I have never seen his name on the team sheet and thought "Oh god" because I know he is a decent player to have in the team. He has impressed me of late but I still believe he will be surplus to requirements if/when we get CL football. Just hope he can keep improving and despite some games when he has frustrated me he has also provided a genius moment out of nowhere to score/assist a goal, which I guess is the more important stat compared to misplaced passes or tackles. <ok>

well guys frank lampard did break alonso's ankle there so that kind of explains the poor season. If we leave injury aside alsonos is an outrageously good player that we were lucky to have.

Adam is a decent guy but theres has to be a time and place for critiquing a player. Nobodies doing it on match day are they? I mean i felt he let his team mates down badly v spurs but aside form that day he's not been awful, just not as good as i'd like in the organisation saide of the game. for me he's not the long term player thats going to own a shirt in my view but i do think he's a vast improvement on some fo the dross we had to put up with as the team got sold out from under us since 2008.

I think everyone just wants to resturn to 2008 and reset. if we get some clas, FIT, player sin as we progress I'll be happy to see adam as a good squad player.

After all.... utd have plenty of them we call rubbish as they pile up the medals. its not a grevious insult to say squad player in my view

Imo a lot of Liverpool fan's go overboard about Alonso, he had one outstanding season and the rest average at best but he is seen as some sort of legend at the club for some reason.

Nothing against Adam who's a decent player who now seems to be settling in for us but Alonso is in a different league in my opinion. Alonso is a world class player and has won pretty much everything in the game, whereas Adam is just a decent PL player, who may go on to be a very good player for us but i doubt he'll ever reach the heights in football that Xabi has.

I don't really think the comparison to Alonso is helpful anyway after all how many prem midfielders would you rate better than or even just as good as Alonso. Silva and er....possibly Yaya Toure?

Try comparing him to Bruno Cheyrou or Salif Diao and this helps see him in a much more favourable light <ok> He ain't the best in the world but he can and will do a good job with little or no fuss.
