Sad news for Charlie :-( - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...hocked-after-sudden-death-of-his-father.html# Charlie Adam, the Stoke and Scotland midfielder, is mourning his father Charles, who has died suddenly at the age of 50. Charlie Adam 'deeply shocked' after sudden death of his father Adam senior, a former player at six Scottish clubs including Dundee United and St Johnstone, was found by police at his home on Monday evening. Stoke City are due to play Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Saturday and there is as yet no indication whether Adam will be involved. In a statement issued on the club website, Stoke said: “The club can confirm that Charlie Adam’s father has died in a tragic incident. All our thoughts are with Charlie and his family at this difficult time. Out of respect to the family, players and staff at the club will not be making any press comment over the Christmas period.” A family friend, speaking to the Daily Record, hinted at Adam’s state of mind: “Charlie, his younger brother Grant and their brother and sister are deeply shocked by this. "They don’t know all of the facts at the moment, so it would be wrong for anybody to say anything. They have not had a chance to understand this. It is a sensitive situation.” A skilful central midfielder and set-piece expert during the 1980s and 1990s whose talent arguably outstripped his eventual achievements in the game, Charles retired from the game in 1994, at the age of just 32, after which he spent some years working in a bar in Dundee. He took a keen interest in his son’s development as a player, and it is tempting to see in the young Charlie’s cultured left foot the influence of his father. It was on Charles’s advice that the teenage Charlie signed for Rangers, and Charles was also a vocal supporter of his son’s leaving Blackpool for Liverpool in 2011. Another of his sons, Grant, is a goalkeeper for Scottish First Division club Airdrie, on loan from St Mirren. In an interview last year, Adam dedicated his own career to his father. “I want to learn from the mistakes my dad made,” he said. “Whatever he didn’t achieve in football, I want to. I’ve told him that, he knows that. I wouldn’t be on the pitch as a Liverpool player if it wasn’t for him and the rest of my family. All the people who have supported me on this road, I owe them a lot.”
Such sad news, my heart goes out to Charlie Adam Jnr also his family and friends... may his dad R.I.P.
Only age 50 too. Certainly makes you think how lucky us older ones are! Sad time of the year as well to lose a loved one. Condolences to Charlie and his family.
Terrible news and an awful time of year - not that there is ever a good time. My thoughts are with him and his family.
Poor Charlie Jnr and his family. Never a nice time to lose a family member obviously but around Christmas is possibly the worst time. Hope Charlie is given all the time in the world to get himself together. Horrific time for him afterall.
Very sad news. Hope he comes through a stronger person for it. Thoughts are with him and his immediate family.
