Newcastle and Sunderland have accepted misconduct charges following their bad-tempered derby on 4 March.

Sunderland's Stephane Sessegnon was red-carded for elbowing Cheick Tiote and captain Lee Cattermole was sent off after full-time in the 1-1 draw.

The Football Association said the charges related to an incident after a late challenge from James McClean on Newcastle's Danny Simpson.
Both clubs requested personal hearings to discuss the incident further.

    Did you know?

Lee Cattermole has been sent off six times since making his Premier League debut in 2006

McClean was shown a yellow card by referee Mike Dean for the tackle on Simpson, whose angry reaction also earned a caution.

The FA said in a statement: "The charge is that the clubs failed to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour and is in relation to an incident which occurred in the 19th minute following a challenge by Sunderland's James McClean on Newcastle's Danny Simpson."

It was one of a number of flashpoints during a stormy contest at the Sports Direct Arena, with Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill and Newcastle counterpart Alan Pardew also becoming involved in an angry exchange.

Eight players were booked and Pardew later criticised Sunderland for adopting an "ugly" approach, a claim rejected by O'Neill.
Cattermole was banned for four matches for his dismissal and Sessegnon was given a three-game suspension.

I cant for the life of me understand why they would seek a personal hearing. Everyone knows that both clubs will be found guilty, fined, although this may be suspended and they will have the costs to pay. Lets be perfectly honest with this, our past record at the FA is ****e. We can never overturn those faceless twats opinions.:headbang:

    Accept it and move on.

We've got so much to look forward to, we shouldn't dwell on past games.

Its a shame that the passion in the game is being suffocated by the FA's PC primness. Great derby game being emasculated so that the will to win is being hidden to protect who? not the fans, cos we love the passion.. not the players cos they love the gritiness also. Maybe the champagne charlies down sowf get disturbed over their caviar and chips?

Both not guilty. But they have both accepted the charges. Why bother with personal hearings, just leave the derby where it is and get on with the rest of the season. It was all good fun and nothing too bad went on.
