When other players aren't performing and he's getting itchy feet like now, than now is the time to play him, before the itchy feet becomes full on frustrated and the moment passes to get an impact out of him. I'd start the lad against Palace 100%
Talking to a few lads yesterday at a golf do at the Ramside (Are you reading this Davey Walls!) and one suggestion was to play Catts alongside Rodwell in that "Holding" role and have the 2 DM's in there and have AN Other up the arse of the front man (if you get my meaning) instead of the "box to box" etc. Play someone in the number 10 role behind Fletcher or Wickham. (Maybe play Wickham as a battering ram in there and FLetcher up top - if he's not injured!) and then have 2 proper wingers playing on the wing (Johnson and Mavrias) Mavrias should, IMO, be starting a game. Buckley would be on the bench for me next week.
Mavrias should be playing, or at least coming off the bench, I've been very vocal on this. He's direct, he's quick, and he's fearless. Where he is better in my opinion than Buckley is he keeps the ball tight to his feet, Buckley is more of a galloper, and this gives defenders a chance to foot in. I' not writing Buckley off he's a decent player who will improve, but Charis should get a shot, I have no doubt.
I agree, though I don't think we've got anybody to play the ACM role, not until Alvarez or Giacc is fit, then I say well aye, the way set up now should be perfect leaving Catt's to clean up, Rodwell going box to box, but we need an Alverez or Giacc next to Rodwell, not an attackingly inept Seb. Larsson unbalances the whole system imo, not through bad performances, but because he doesn't have the ability to add any attacking threat or creativity down the middle.
I proposed Fletch for this job a few days ago, he looks the part for Scotland in this role so we could do worse than to give him a shot at it, he is also one of our players with the knack of finding the net, although he seems to be finding it hard going lately, but no more than his colleagues.
I would like to see both of them in the team to be honest, both have the potential to develop into top players imo.
Don't think you got what I meant marra. Or has Fletch been playing CM for Scotland? I'm just on about our present system. with Catts as DM and two CMs sat in front.
Hi Funk, I would like to see our back four protected by a 2-3-1 formation and the 2 would be Catts with Rodwell or Bridcutt the 3 would be two wide men from AJ/Buckley/ Mavraise or Watmore with Fletch in the middle playing behind Whicks or Jozy.
Me too, with Mav given a try in the wingback role until we have our injured players back. I am a real fan of Vergini by the way and just wish we had him tied down with a contract, and not just on loan.
Apparently he's signed a 3 -year deal it just can't be made official until the 3rd party ownership dispute is cleared up, which doesn't involve us.
