Solly was dropped at stevenage due to him being small in stature and cort brought in to combat steveNage`s physical threat....WHY. We should be letting the stevenages of this world worry about us and our slick passing game ( up until Tranmere ). We are Charlton FFS and should worry about no one in this league,I for one hope it doesnt happen again. Play our best 11 and play our game not pander to the oppositions style, not in LEAGUE 1
Who was it who said "from now on I'm just going to play my best team" ? Having just taken us to the brink of relegation?
One of the hardest parts of management is how do you use a big squad? I'm all for a bit of tinkering to keep the squad ticking over but keep the back 4 as they are until a change is forced.
Spot on MT - smacks of scaredy cat tactics - more akin with Parky. And then say Solly is number 1 RB - very very strange. As AH says - beginning to sound like Pardew
Powell has to show his mettle now and accept that he made a big cock-up. Solly, Waggy and Hayes back in and Cort, Kermit and Green on the bench. After all, our best football was played when Green was unavailable, Kermit was unsigned and Cort was sitting on the bench. I mirrored MikeT's sentiments a couple of days ago in saying that we should be passing teams to death and letting them chug around the pitch. I was horrified to see us bowing to Stevenage's physical traits on Saturday. Earlier on in the season we would have footballed them off the park.
Even before Stevenage we have struggled against physical teams. Managers will be telling their teams that "they don't like it up 'em" when they play us. It's up to the players particularly the midfield to work harder to keep the passing game going when this happens otherwise we will always go back to long-ball when there is no-one to pass to. I wasn't a great fan of Paul Hayes at first but I've changed my mind and feel he must come back ASAP as he always makes himself available.
Morrison at RB is Imo simply insane. Solly has been immense so why drop him? Also the partnership of Morrison and Taylor has been formidable so why break that up? Simply put... 'if it aint broke don't fix it'.
The thing about changing the team is- it has to work. It shows the players that the manager knows what he's doing and therefore increases their respect for him. On the other hand, if it doesn't work..................... So it's an important game for CP tomorrow. Whatever players he picks have to do the job for him, or he will be under the spotlight.
