http://www.skysports.com/football/n...-softening-rules-on-fouls-in-the-penalty-area The International Football Association Board (IFAB) has published changes to the laws of the game for the 2016/17 season, the most notable altering sending-off and cautionable offences inside the penalty area. The previous 'triple-punishment' rule meant that a player who denied a goal-scoring opportunity was automatically red-carded and handed a suspension, as well as giving away a penalty. However, the law has now changed so that players committing accidental fouls, that deny a goal-scoring opportunity, are not automatically sent-off, but cautioned instead Players will still be sent-off for holding, pulling or pushing, not playing the ball or having no possibility to play the ball, serious foul play, violent conduct or deliberate handball. Referees' powers have also been extended so that they can send-off a player before kick-off, from the official's pre-match pitch inspection onwards. please log in to view this image Red cards will still be shown for a number of offences inside the box Announced on Thursday, the new laws also state the ball will also be able to move in any direction from kick-off, rather than only move forward. Players who are injured by a challenge punishable by a yellow or red card can now have quick treatment on the field, rather than having to leave, which previously gave the offending team temporary numerical advantage. IFAB announced last month their intentions to change the laws following a comprehensive, 18-month review, led by former English Premier League referee David Elleray. The IFAB unanimously approved the revision, which they identified as a 'once in a generation' opportunity to address anomalies and inconsistences in the laws. The IFAB, the game's law-making body, also approved a two-year trial period of video technology to assist referees, to be used in four cases: to determine if a goal has been scored, red cards, penalties and mistaken identity.
So basically, if you play for the right club, you'll get a yellow card for a professional foul! How does anyone, other than the person committing the foul, know whether they meant it or not? "Players will still be sent off for holding, pushing or pulling" funny - that isn't even a foul at the minute and now it's a red card? PLayers who are injured by a challenge can receive treatment? So basically back to how it used to be? That's going to help the game flow! Why not do something sensible like "if a player stays down and the ball is put out of play so they can receive treatment and they then get up, they are made to leave the field of play for a minimum of 1 minute (timed by the 4th official)"
Agree with most of what you are saying there but the bit about treatment is only if the fouling player is getting booked so the dubious ones should be at a minimum - oh **** just thought of Marriner, Friend etc
Or Barcelona when their defender virtually slapped the ball last night to stop Atletico scoring and not even a yellow !. But they were done by an amazing missed penalty claim late in the game which was 2 feet inside the area. Kicking the ball away is not as serious as hacking a player down so the rules should be change there, maybe a blue card and if it is done three times a yellow. Diving and 'acting' drive me mad, a yellow for that.
Waheeey, I agree with Monty! Hate Barca, they've ruined European competition, I love that little Atletico slapped their arses, I hope the rest of their season falls apart and Messi leaves to go and play Air Hockey in Turkmenistan for the rest of his life.
This is an absolute shambles. Get ready for loads of last man fouls denying your team a win and no red card following. And how much did they pay these ****s to come up with "the ball can go any direction from kick-off". Why? What was wrong with it how it was, everyone knows the ball goes forward from kick-off, it's hardly a regular source of problems is it. This is ****e.
The player that gets injured by a yellow or red card offence not having to leave the field to get treatment is a gooder . Pissed me off seeing my player almost get killed on a tackle and he goes off to get treatment while the the tacklers team gets the man advantage . Also , the accidental foul in the box change is a good one .Suspended , red carded and a spot kick should only be given out if you kill someone ...lol... pretty harsh for an accident .
