Good article in the Guardian regarding changes that could improve the Premier Legaue: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2011/may/18/innovations-next-season-premier-league What changes, if any would you like to see to improve the all round game in the Premier League. Some of mine would include: Retrospective punishment regardless if Refs made a decision in the game. Discourage spectators from hurling abuse at refs and players (by awarding points in the fair play league) - the respect campaign has been a disaster mainly because the 'abuse' that the players give the refs is insignificant compared to the vile abuse hurled at both players and refs from the terraces. This can only be justified if... Decreasing ticket prices - this will give real fans the opportunity to support the team instead of being priced out by fair weather supporters. Why should every other industry have to make sacrifices to stay competitive when we see ticket prices go up! You may bring uo the supply and demand argument but are we supplied with what we demand? "The average amount of time that the ball has been in play in Premier League matches this season is 62min 39sec." See Guardian link. Any ideas you may have?
touchline technologies like in tennis. takes a few seconds but could help make the premier leauge. Some appauling decisions have gone against not just us but the other big teams and its ruining the game.
Good article, going to post it on the Liverpool forum aswell. Some of the suggestions are good and some just mental.
That could work, but may just open up a minefield of abuse and appeals. Like the Eduardo situation against Celtic where he got a retrospective punishment and it then got overturned cos Arsenal managed to show a wee bit of contact between him and the keeper. Like Steevee says, I'd rather some technology to make sure a decision was made right the first time. Agree with that, but also use the ref's mic to record the abuse the players give him and give any players swearing or abusing him retrospective yellow cards. That avoids the problem of having loads of players sent off during the game for abusing the ref, but also ensures the players don't just get away with it. Never gonna happen! No club will drop its ticket prices and reduce its revenue at a time when wages are rising faster than ticket prices, and a large portion of success is driven by money. Even a club like Arsenal, that makes loads from matches and is financially well run, spends around 50% of its turnover on wages. Also, how do you determine who's a real fan and who isn't?
I agree about the touchline technology. But what about goal line technology aswell. Who thinks we need it?
