I all thought that the reason why Real could spend so much was that if they went in to serious debt which they supposedly have a few times they were bailed out by the King Of Spain. That's why they were able to build the Galaticos
I think this article illustrates why Ken Bates never handed the club over to a charitable trust. I am sure its something he wanted to do, given his overarching desire to be seen as a benefactor of the Leeds fans, who I know he held in special regard. Not sure I really understand the article, and why FIFA and others had a problem with these clubs and their ownership structures. The article does not really explain enough for me.
