Having originally been completely relaxed about relegation, I've got myself in what can only be described as a "bit of a tiz" today. In terms of the form guide: 5 games we are second bottom with 0 10 games we are second bottom with 7 15 games we are third bottom with 14 20 games we are 19th with 21 So whilst the last 5 games losses is a concerning sequence, our poor form goes way back to before we sacked Mowbray. Indeed if the season had started in November, we'd just be 2 points above the relegation zone now. If every team's "5 game form" would be repeated for the rest of the season, we end up getting relegated. That's a small sample so isn't very valid. But even with the "10 game form" being repeated, we only just about survive. And that would require us to win a couple of our remaining games. So can everyone re-assure me and give me a warm hug and tell me its all going to be okay? Because I've got a bit worked up
Zero chance ... ... first to say different can have a £100 charity bet with me. Salvation Army if I lose, who's in?
We aren't going down. We might endure a really poor end to the season but the form would need to be unprecedented to see us go down. 10 games left, five or six points would likely be more than enough to see us safe. I think we will exceed that requirement slightly but not by as much as we would have hoped. A big summer lies ahead.
I agree 6 points should be enough. But we only got 7 points in our last 10 games and have 10 games left. And most of those games were with Jack Clarke, and these aren't. It's going to be so tight. And I think the shock of being in a relegation fight is going to suddenly hit us in a few weeks unless we get a win in the next couple of games.
Have a look at the fixtures mate, a lot of games where teams below us play each other....they can't both win. I know it looks precarious if our form doesn't pick up, but there's just too many teams would need to win a lot of games to catch us. Rotherham are as good as gone, that leaves two places. Absolute no chance we drop into one of them.
We won't be in a relegation fight, the last 10 games were a chaos that will calm down ... ... we showed, last night, we're capable of playing well and matching any team. The teams at the bottom are there for a reason, we're better than them.
They all only need to win 3 each unless we win again. Its that second bit I'm struggling with due to our lack of goals. Like I said I'm in a tiz. Perhaps I need to go to bed
As in all things confidence is a major factor. There's been a fair bit of upheaval and I think some mixed messages on the coaching front. Once we get that win it will give the lads a boost and we will be off and running again. Wouldn't be surprised if we have to draw a couple first before we kick on but then we may go on a good run. I do not anticipate getting involved at the bottom end of the table. Nothing like a bit of Blind Faith and I'm not talking about Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker et al. I feel old lol
Random bonus stat for you all for cheering me up. There have only been three hat tricks in the Championship season but 12 in the Premier League. I think thats further evidence of the lack of good strikers at this level.
I think we'll be alright from now on, the second half against Leicester was a big positive. The players are still up for it and I've got just enough faith in Dodds to believe he'll get it more or less right from this point.
I'm glad a few have given you a warm hug marra... you'd have gotten nowt off me (not that you would have expected it, or wanted it). It just annoys me that your concerns could add fuel to the fire for those posters who just want to wack the club. Hope you are feeling better. I know it's not a great place we currently find ourselves in, but I'm giving the club my full support, especially after KLD asked for patience.
Even the worst teams pick up a point or three here and there and while we're in bad form we are anything but one of the worst teams. We will pick up some points and the three/four at the bottom are unlikely to get enough to leapfrog us. The season has been a really poor one and it seems to be getting all the more poor. Second season syndrome I guess. But I just don't see us going down.
That's all true and we feel down but ... ... a storming win at Southampton and, all of a sudden, it goes mad again. I've seen it happen, over many years, and it's fcken phenomenal ... ha'way!!!!!!!!
Blackburn have home Plym, Ipswich, Soton, Sheff w, Cov. Away boro, Sunderland, B City, Leeds, leicester 40 points now i reckon they might get 9 points but if we beat them here we are safe. 10 teams from 38 to 44 points B city 50 points must be a safe target. we are 150/1 to go down as well.
More chance of nicking 6th than being relegated. Realistically we’re finishing in the 8th-15th range.
I've pretty much given up much hope of good days ahead this season, put it down to growing pains I guess, excited about the summer though.
The number of points away from the relegation zone isn't really the concern - can Sheff Wed get more points than us by the end of the season? Possibly. But there's 11 teams that would all have to get more points than us (several teams have to get more ppg than they've averaged all season). Not only that, but they'd have to win more of those games against the teams above us as they'll be taking points off each other. I may start to get nervous if we don't pick up 3 points in March though.
If Dodds gets his team selection right and we play the remainder of the season like we did the second half on Tuesday night, we will win 8 of our last 10 games
