There's been alot of pointless discussion on here about who we want to win tonight more for emotional reasons than anything i suppose, however, in terms of prize money, on reflection, shouldn't we just want the result that leaves us with the best chance of finishing as high as possible for financial reasons if nowt else. Could the difference between 7th and 9th position (for instance) be the salary of a decent striker for 2 months next season? Anyone know how the prize money is allocated ?
Apparently it's £190k for each place so that would be £3.23m for 7th or £2.85m for 9th. Dunno if true though.
Well sure if we finished 7th and got £3.23m for example that would pay the salaries for a year of 3 new players at the very least. We should finish 8th regardless but to coin a phrase ""every penny does count"". Hence why winning @ West Han on saturday is needed as i see Watford taking something from Middlesboro. It would be much easier for City to win IF the Hammers played lesser players shall we say.
I'm happy to stand corrected without the need for surgical boots, but I googled this the other day and as best O could tell it doesn't make a jot of difference where you finish in the Championship unless you go up auto. All the rewards are from the Prem. I read you get £50k for winning, £25k for second and sod all for the rest. I wouldn't bet any money at all on that being right, but it's all I could find.
50k and 25k is pretty much correct, the bulk of money comes from other sources. Each championship club recieves 2.3 millin per season from the Premier league, approx 1.3 million for tv rights and if a club goes up to the premiership without claiming the 16 mill parachute payment then that money is divided between the championship and leagues 1 & 2 with a split of 50%, 30% 20%, so technically we all want to see Blackpool and west ham go up which should give us an extra 660k so pretty much a possible 4 mill on offer.
Except we're receiving parachute payments ourselves, so we don't get the unity payments from the PL. We get our £8M parachute payment (they halve now we've been in the Championship for a couple of years) and the FL's TV deal money. I'm not sure whether or not the fact we get parachute payments also excludes us from receiving a cut of Blackpool/West Ham's unclaimed payments if they get promoted.
