Cheers spent about an hour trying to find that out the other day - hopefully not of any interest to us but just in case
You haven't noticed these kick off times before? No consideration for Northern fans. Must be the only capital where you can't get a train from to a city to the size of Hull after a football match starting at 5pm.
If its goes tits up and we are away at somewhere like Ipswich or Brighton for a 19:45 kick off it won't be much fun getting back.
Checking train timetables against games in which we are not scheduled to play is, as yet, not one of my primary leisure pursuits. It all depends whether the lady who has to man (arf!) the signal box in the Gilberdyke/ Broomfleet/ Oxmardyke area can be persuaded to do a Sat night shift. Otherwise trains can't run that late. I believe plans are afoot to update this stretch of the line as part of the government's Northern Outhouse initiative, so the signalling is automated. There are also plans to phase the steam trains which currently run in this part of the Northern Outhouse. I believe Steve Brady is currently negotiating with Workington and Barrow to form a 'best of the rest' single unitary council designed to challenge the major metro ones for a go with the cheque book.
You don't have to check times against games. Trains don't run at that time from London to Hull. Presumably you didn't go to the semi final or final by scheduled train. Of course it is not a problem unique to Hull, other clubs oop north, ie above Watford, have similar problems.
I went in May 2008 on the Thos Cook train at 60GBP. Felt like it was like being in a 'Hard Day's Night', some right old rolling stock. It was comforting to know that in every carriage there was a Thos Cook steward (students in oversize hi viz jackets) ensuring no one imbibed any alcohol. From memory it was a 5hr journey down, had to go via Isle of Ely etc cos East Coast mainline was booked up with traffic, with Tulyar, Crepello, Pinza or summat pulling us. Alighting at Kings X on a sunny Saturday with a full special train of City fans is another great memory of that day, as was the concourse at about 7 pm after the match with black and amber everywhere and a few vermin dribbling in sheepishly for their game v Donny the next day. Again, thanks to Tommy Cook stewards we were able to enjoy a peaceful and orderly journey back with no alcohol or congas etc I enjoyed it so much I did it again v Sheff utd in 2014. Train stopped at Donny to allow a few more on, including that rarest of rare beasts, a modest friendly pessimistic Sheffield fan and his lad. He suggested they had no chance and I agreed. The only way to travel for those milestone games.
Not like the specials in the 70s where the crates of beer were piled up in the aisles. Sad that it isn't possible to do these things on a service train. Of course even if they were running it would be too expensive for most.
Burnley, Huddersfield, Sheffield United, Rotherham, Leeds for the Rochdale replay............... remember once when our special pulled into Leeds station en route somewhere and someone let some rockets off which flew and fizzed across the platform. Rotherham in the FA Cup when the train stopped 100 yards short of the platform in an attempt to stop us getting in the pubs too early. Everyone departed across the lines. The only way to travel to an away game. Sadly missed.
After going to our previous successful appearance in the play offs, i wouldn't be attending this time around if that's all we manage. Can be done without the expense, the ridiculous kick off time and having won last time and getting into the premiership for the very first time in our history, nothing is going to top that barring another cup final.
Yeah I'm the same. I only attend important City matches when I'm pretty sure it'll be better than all the previous ones I've attended.
We've had 104 years of underachievement, then 3 Wembley trips in 8 years. Nowt to stop us having another 104 fallow years. Wouldn't write it off whatever the cost/inconvenience. It'll take at least another twenty trips there before I consider giving it a miss. It will mean we're starting to get established.
Ahhh....can't beat a good old Deltic. Anyhow - the Final is on my birthday, so should we **** up automatic promotion, I suppose there could be worse ways of spending your birthday if we make it to Wembley. I'd rather not have to deal with the frayed nerves mind you - so auto please.
