I thought this league was supposed to be tough to get out of, even Pompey managed to get out after two seasons. Speaking of which I wonder if bornpompey does the lottery?
I had a similar warning from a Pompey fan before this season started. After a few games I was able to say to him, 'This Championship lark is great, isn't it?'
I predicted West Ham 2nd and Saints 3rd at start of season....glad i got that one wrong but i knew we would not struggle like some suggested...Its Only a game are you going to send Born Pompey a reminder of his message?
I like reading some of the previews that were done last Summer. The Telegraph didn't do too well - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...3102/Championship-2011-12-season-preview.html
I predicted both Southampton and Pompey to finish mid-table pre-season and I expected West Ham to win the title by a large margin. I knew Southampton were a good team but you performed above and beyond my expectations while several teams - Birmingham, Leciester, Blackpool, Middlesborough and even Burnley - performed well below what I was expecting. Pompey did about as well as expected over the whole season and would have finished safely mid-table if not for CSI's collapse and the 10 point deduction.
The August predictions that West Ham and Lesta clubs would walk this league have been blown out of the water as i always knew they would. The championship was always going to be 6 clubs from 16. Spending millions proves nothing and West Ham and Lesta prove. I expect Blackpool to win the play offs fofr the record.
Just having some fun French. No-one is more surprised than me about how we've done this season and I'm well aware of the challenge that lies ahead. But in the meantime I'm enjoying the moment (or living the dream as they say). please log in to view this image
I don't think anyone could really see beyond West Ham and Leicester (the pundits we also backing Ipswich for some reason), although I had a feeling Forest may struggle due to all their departures. I thought Hull might be the dark horses, and they may well have been if Pearson had stayed put. At the bottom I feared for Cov and Watford - who I think have done exceptionally well.
Leicester & Forest 1st & 2nd Actually what they said about Southampton was pretty accurate: "With the likes of Alex Chamberlain, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert, will not want for attacking options. Jack Cork is also an exciting signing from Chelsea. But they will find the Championship punishes their occasional defensive lapses more harshly. Will beat some superb teams, but also lose to some abject ones." They did, however, get our position totally wrong. Their best effort was the playoff teams (3/4) and the relegated teams (2/3).
No richie I don't go to the Pompey board that often, and in the present circumstances it would just be bad manners. I wont be offended if you did though but he's probably not available for comment at the moment.
Here's someone who knew what he was talking about. Even if he didn't get it quite right, he had more faith in our team than most of us. http://www.not606.com/showthread.ph...-As-It-Stands-Right-Now-Football-Championship
I predicted Saints to win. Can't prove it but my step son is a West Ham fan and he hasn't heard the end of it.
