http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37314555 So - would it be hypocritical of me to say that the Champions League should be confined to only the champions of their leagues ? I know that UEFA only want to increase the number of places in the competition to ensure that there are enough places for the 'BIG' clubs - regardless of their final league placing...... and of course, this is so that there is enough attraction for television subscription for the matches................................ .......... I could say that I am not in favour of allowing the 4th placed club to enter the CL, and that it should only be the champions of the league - but - that would make me a hypocrite ! - Why ? - because I love the Play Offs (who doesn't ? ). Isn't the Play Off principle not a lot different to the UEFA idea of extending the CL places ? I do not believe, for one minute, that the Play Offs is anything other than a money making idea for television and the FA.... It certainly isn't fair on the club that has been in 3rd place all season - and has to play an extra 3 games (plus extra time and penalties ) to beat a team (against whom they may have already completed a 'double'), in order to be promoted- instead of the side that might have scraped 6th place on the final day of the season. ....... that's great if you're that 6th placed club - and I suppose that is why I love and hate the Play Offs in equal quantity - and when I watch the finals, I can't help but smile at the pain and misery of the players and fans of the losing club ( especially if they were the side that was in 3rd place ).
Big difference is that there is no extra teams going up. The champs league is just an extra league for the big boys to make more money.
