Just goes to show the advantage of going out and attacking teams rather than playing for narrow wins. It's been a roller coaster ride with the board stripping the squad to the bare bones and appointing a certain manager and sacking a fan favourite but we got there in the end. Lots of injuries and fatigued players but on we go to Amsterdam and lets hope we can finish the season in style.
bit worried about the injury to Hazard for Amsterdam. He's been crucial over the past few months and we're going to miss him. Oscar and Moses will need to step up to the plate, or maybe we play Mikel, Ramires, Lampard, Oscar, Mata in midfield? Hopefully we'll bag that Europa league and beat Everton to finish 3rd which guarantees Champs League (keeping in mind 4th only gets you a playoff qualifier)
it was one of them games that flip flopped could have gone either way as both team knew they had to win in the end it came down to our strength of character and a Legend immortalising himself.
Well actually, it came down the fact that at 10 v 10 there is more space on the pitch, the game opens up, and the cream gets a chance to rise to the top - allowing Frank to immortalise himself. Villa had a good game plan that was effective in snuffing us out, a shame for them it went to 10 v 10, but a boon for us.
Just a question from an outsider: Would any of you mind seeing Benitez appointed on a longer contract at the end of the season if he were to win the Europa league and cement 3rd place in the league, seeing as you've finished the season so strongly? Or are any of you just a little curious to see how he would do if given more time? Or is it a case that you'll never support him after his comments about you (the fans) in the past?
Thanks for the constructive comment. With all due respect Benitez will never be welcome by most Chelsea fans (mainly due to comments). It's not about success, it's about sentiment. It would be a bit like Gary Neville managing Liverpool. No Liverpool fan would ever take to him or see him as one of their own irrespective of his achievements. It's not that he's a bad manager, whilst I don't rate him and never have, his CV clearly shows he's a better manager than our RDM but RDM symbolised everything we were about. When he was sacked, that was the final straw for many including myself. People really do underestimate how much time (emotionally) football fans invest in their clubs.
Very good point BM2. He has certainly not been terribly good when played recently, might be lack of game time, though think it's natural attrition for all the years he's beaten his body up for the team. Unlike Frank, I can't see an extension coming his way simply because he's not doing the business. He does still offer us heaps as a rotation player, but I would like to see him go to somewhere like Galatasary for his last couple of years and still play in the CL etc. He deserves it. Equally, he can stick around and pass on his experience and fighting spirit to his young successors. That said he'll probably recover , rest and next year play like the JT of old !!!!
