Bayern v Chelsea - Saturday 19th May

Chelsea will be without suspended captain John Terry, fellow defender Branislav Ivanovic and midfielders Ramires and Raul Meireles. Defenders Gary Cahill and David Luiz could be fit after injury but midfielder Florent Malouda is 50-50.

Bayern have home advantage but go into the game after losing 5-2 to Borussia Dortmund in the German Cup final last weekend and also have three players suspended - defensive midfielder Holger Badstuber, and midfielders David Alaba and Luiz Gustavo.

Only two sides have lifted the European Cup at home: Real Madrid in 1957 and Inter Milan in 1965, and the last team to play at home - AS Roma in 1984 - lost on penalties to Liverpool.

Can see this being an exciting match especially if we get an early goal. Think Chelsea's problems in defence point to a Bayern win in their own ground.

Chelsea are without some key players and will miss the industry of Ramires. Bayern have a very strong team which must make them favourites, although Drogba is a wild card who always seems to score on the big occasions,so Chelsea have a chance is they keep it tight.

There is also the matter of the Championship play-off final, which is far less predictable.

Can't wait for this. Gonna be great. Bayern were disspointing a few years ago so they will want to make up for it. Chelsea might think it's destiny after there amazing performance v Barca but I think Bayern are superior. They will be without some key players though.

    1. Bayern have the massive advantage of playing at home in their Allianz Arena where they are immensely strong. This season in the Bundesliga they have W 14 of 17 F49 A6, and in the CL they have P7 at home and won the lot including home wins against Man City 2-0,and Real Madrid 2-1.

    2. They have three in form strikers in wingers Robben [17goals], Ribery [17] and the impressive CF Mario Gomez [39] who has scored 9 home goals in the CL and has scored In 5 of their last 6 CL home games.

    3. Both sides are without suspended players. Bayern will miss CB Badstuber, LB Alaba, and MF Gustavo while Chelsea will be without defenders John Terry + Ivanovic + MFs Ramires and Miereles. Chelsea seem to be the side who are the more badly affected especially as the replacement CBs, Cahill and Luiz have been injury doubts and may be less than 100% fit while the absence of the skilful, energetic MF Ramires is a huge loss.

    4. Chelsea away to the top PL sides haven’t got a good record losing at Man City 2-1, Manyoo 3-1, and drawing at Arsenal 0-0, and Spurs 1-1.

    5. Bayern lost 5-2 to Borussia Dortmund last Saturday in the German Cup Final and that will have given Chelsea encouragement.

IN SUM - Chelsea without key players, especially at the heart of their defence, will find this a really difficult task so Bayern [despite their German Cup Final defeat] must be expected to win.
