RANGERS have won the SFL Reserve League after rounding off their campaign with a 2-0 victory over Queenâs Park. Tommy Wilsonâs swifts went into the fixture knowing only a win would guarantee them the title with both the Spiders and Morton still in contention. And in front of a good crowd at Ibrox, his young side duly delivered the three points required to secure the silverware against more experienced opponents. Fraser Airdâs goal just before the break gave the hosts a thoroughly deserved lead following a half in which they created several good chances to go ahead. Luca Gasparotto then doubled the advantage with a header on 58 minutes to seal a good championship triumph. The Light Blues won 11 of their 13 games in the competition and are now four points ahead of second-top Morton, who have an outstanding game against Partick to play. Queenâs Park drop to fourth in the standings as theyâve the same points and goal difference as Airdrie United but have scored less. Rangers will now go for a double with the Reserve League Cup due to fill the second half of the campaign. West Section games against Thistle, Annan, Queen of the South, Ayr, Queenâs Park, Morton and Airdrie will take place in the next few weeks. If Gers finish in the top two, theyâll then go through to a semi-final against an East Section side and the final is due to take place on the week beginning April 29.
