he is going nowhere cortese wont let him leave as it would harm our progress which is the most important thing to him not the quick money. i stopped listening to press after the takeover as only 1 thing has come true since which was signing a player in january cant remember who as i have a bad memory but was because the other club let the news out.

we will see him in a saints shirt tomorrow in the new red and white stripes

It's his agent stirring things up via the press again.

Like you said - It's from the Mirror.. The Newspaper that claimed Chamberlain signed on the dotted line for Arsenal weeks/months ago... Then we found out he hadn't even spoken to Arsenal and we rejected their derisory £6m bid. The old saying we all love to whack out is back » "I won't believe it until it's on the OS.

On the other hand if this does have any truth to it and he has asked to leave, then just let him go, he's given us all great memories and scored our last goal in League One which was one of our goals of the season, and you could see how much it meant to him! Every game he's played thus far for us he's given 110% and he's been very professional, kept his head down and worked hard to help us get promotion. He stayed with us in January when he could of moved on, so if he thinks now is the right time for him to leave so he can make the best progression possible in his career then let the lad go, I personally will wish the fella all the best if he does move on but I know there will be some who will be bitter about it.

If we can get £10m+ for him that'd be brilliant, think of who we could buy with that type of money! I'd like to see Billy Sharp (Just give him the wages he wanted, it'll be worth it), George Boyd and Gradel, all realistic but all very good quality players... We won't get Maynard - I don't want us to either he's not worth £6m+ - and if he still refuses to sign a new contract his price will dramatically fall in Jan.

Brilliant, another Daily Mirror story from fantasy land! Can't stand these tabloids and their ridiculous transfer speculation stories. I'll believe it when it's on the OS or BBC Sport etc!

Sky Sports have just picked this up, I still doubt he would say he's ready for PL football at 17, he ain't that deluded surely?

Big difference here is a direct quote form the player. Hard to dismiss that isn't it?!

There's no evidence to suggest that's exactly what he said though. He may well have said something similar when questioned but the media like to distort what people actually say!

Whats weird is the Sky Sports news article never says who he was speaking to and when he 'said' those words. I think newspapers are just clutching at straws and trying to make a big deal out of nothing!!

It's his agent passing on "quotes". The story went quiet for a bit, his agent is just stirring things up again to put pressure on Cortese, which I doubt will work one bit.

Adkins and Cortese know the real truth and whether they feel Alex will cause a fuss behind the scenes if he doesn't move this summer. I have a feeling he'd be ok staying at Saints. I can only see his value increasing next season anyway. What's the rush to go and sit on a Prem team's bench, when he can play 40+ games for Saints next season, increase his value for both the club and have the pick and choose of teams to join next summer.

But then, when has football transfer ever made logical sense. So I expect him to end up at Wigan for £3m spread over 20 years with us getting the Wigan' manager's 7 year old son in return on a 300 year contract.

I have no problem with him leaving if that is what he wants, I dont think anyone has the right to stand in his way. But what does annoy me is all these add ons depending on goals, england caps etc... If you want a player that badly then just pay the full amount in one go and be done with it. I might go to my local indian later and have a vindaloo but only pay half up front and half later depending on weather it gives me the sh*ts or not!

Yes, Southampton FC has a right to stand in his way.

We are the club that developed him, trained him, gave him a chance and signed him as a professional on a three year contract. A contract that has two years left to run.

A laughable comment from an idiot who clearly knows nothing about Saints or football following the mirrors story. I wonder what the flying f**k big club guidance is...? Being loaned out to club after club, not learning the importance of team spirit or real hard work or maybe it means sitting on the bench as endless 'big money big names' fly in and take your space in the starting line up. He is only 17 and has had one season in league 1, surely the natural progression even for someone with bags of potential like Oxo would be at least 1 season in the second best league in England. Kamsoman has really got on my manboobs!

'I wonder how much it cost Southampton to train him. The greed of the chairman is going to stifle his development. You can get more technically gifted Chamberlains in Africa and South America for less than a million. No wonder the English are left behind so far back. Common sense is scarce, greed and ignorance is the order of the day. This lad needs the expertise Arsenal can give him to realise his full potential, Walcott can testify for that. It does not matter which of the big clubs he goes to, he needs big club guidance'
