Hi all, I've put together a chalkboard blog on the Man U game at http://wearepremierleague.com It's never nice to lose but ultimately Man U are a better team and did a professional job (They've had 3 1-0 league wins in a row now). We played well and had a couple of good chances/situations but ultimately they pressed high up the pitch to start with, got an early goal and then were happy to sit back in the second half.
Good blog again DB. I think you got your evaluation spot on. Man U pressed us like mad in the first half, definitely the most I have ever seen a team press down the Liberty, and like you said, it's pretty obvious that is the way to counteract our passing game. We came in to it more in the second half, but again like you said, that was mainly to do with Man U dropping off us (they rarely pressed outside their own half in the second half), and even though Joey made a big difference to our midfield, Man U were always in control. I take heart from the fact that they put out a strong side and were content with defending a one nil lead, as that means they must have been worried about our attacking threat to an extent, and I think every team coming to the Liberty should keep Fergies tactics in mind.
Good post DB from what i have been.told and the statement you made about pressing teams being caught behind do.you think it would be beneficial to us if aston villa come and press us so we can attack when.we pass through them which if we get the early chance and take it this time would mean that they would have to come at us more, look at when Bolton came to town they harassed us in the first half, i reckon even.if they had 11 men.on the pitch we would of still picked them.off given time
I'd imagine Villa will sit back and look to hit us on the counter attack. I can see it being a fairly drab 0-0 but to be honest I'd be delighted with that and I'd see it as a decent point.
