The appointment of Susan Whelan as Leicester City's new chief executive officer is the clearest indication yet of how much of a priority the club has become to chairman Vichai Raksriaksorn. Dublin-born Whelan has played an integral part in the rise of King Power, Raksriaksorn's company in Thailand, which is reportedly worth around £240 million. In her previous role as deputy managing director of the company, Whelan is considered one of the major driving forces behind the opening of King Power's downtown retail-to-leisure complex in Bangkok, and the opening of their huge airport retail centre at Suvarnabhumi Airport. With 273 commercial outlets, 113 more than Heathrow's Terminal Five, it is considered Asia's most expansive airport retail centre. Both were opened within two months of each other. Whelan joined City's board of directors in December after reaching the position of senior executive vice-president of King Power. Now Vichai has turned to one of his most trusted King Power lieutenants to oversee the development of his City project, and it is the clearest indication of the seriousness the Thai owners have towards City. The restructuring dismisses any lingering concerns from when Asia Football Investments took over the club last year that City had become a rich man's play-thing. Although technically owned by Asia Football Investments and not King Power, City are now a serious wing of the King Power empire. City fans may not know much about Whelan, but that is not surprising as she has spent the majority of her career in travel retail overseas.
There is more investors in the club then King Power but they are the only ones we know that are actually running the club. The rest are just silent investors
Proud Fox - I thought I read somewhere that Top has sole ownership of the club now, or is there some smoke and mirror stuff going on
Asian Football investments has sole ownership. King Power are the major players in AFI but there is other thai families involved as well
