I 'applaud' the rhetoric.... All the words are the right 'style' of words.... words that we have heard numerous times from Mr. Scally... ALL Gills fans are hurting from the Oxford game - but - I think that those sorts of results are 'freak' happenings - and just happen ! .. And they can happen to the best of teams ( Bolton 6-0 Sunderland ! )... I don't want to just be 'fed' rhetoric... I would like Mr. Scally to turn the words into action - and if he can't (( for whatever reason )), he needs to show more of the humility he had in the interview - more empathy and sympathy for the fans - to listen to some genuine grievances (( not just of one person )) - grievances that affect many fans -- but -- for so long, he has failed to engage with the fans - and fails to take action to prevent the club from ''bleeding to death.''..... for example - why didn't he let Stevenage take Evans.. Gills would have got compensation - money to lift the transfer embargo - and we could have played a style of football that gives a fighting chance of not being thrashed every time..... and don't get me started about all the 'politics' that exists.... at times, even Boris has seemed more affable.
The video itself is better in the sense it's shorter, so maybe some feedback via social media sources has been listened to. Quite often with any youtube stuff I watch, to gain my interest it has to be short and to the point. I think the communication skills in itself still needs to be addressed. Everyone has a right to an opinion but hearing the same lines can become a bit tedious, repetitive and can come across as negative in nature, this is where is editing team and communication team/person should be readdressing, but I suppose it's having the balls to tell him - unless he knows and he's just going to do what he wants. Having said that, I found this video far better than the rest. I still in my own head, need to understand why Dempsey left, maybe this will be explained in 'the letter.' - Me being me, I don't tow the supporter line that it's much needed funds, afterall what income did it bring, let's be generous and say £180k as a wild guess. What's that, two gates takings. If we go down to L2, I'm sure we will be losing far more money than that. Personally and it's only me saying this, I've not heard it from other supporters, I just feel it's very shortsighted, but hey, I don't know the background to all this and answers maybe forthcoming. Now back to the £180k if that is what it is, I'd like to see the total sum going towards paying off whatever the EFL Loan was. I don't want to see it being used for wages I suppose is what I'm saying, I don't know how to word it any politer than that. Anyway, on the capture of Neil Harris, excellent piece of work on the Chairman's part and something that should be acknowledged, at last yesterday we had something to cheer about, and the whole of twitter is buzzing as a result. We might not survive the drop, but last night was a massive step to help towards any recovery.
To be honest I don't think Dempsey alone was / is the key to us staying up - we're so far behind now it will take a miracle of epic scale. Not saying it's impossible, but on balance I think it's much better business to at least get something for Dempsey now than let him go free at the end of the season. We need to be a selling club in order to survive, and I think for too long we've held on to players in the likely forlorn hope that we could actually get promoted. I seem to recall there was some serious money offered for Jack Tucker a couple of seasons ago, which was turned down. For me the whole philosophy of the club on transfers doesn't make sense. Added to which, apparently Evans had to go. So why didn't he take Stevenage's money when it was offered. Surely a relationship doesn't break down that much that quickly. As far as the future goes I am a lot more optimistic with Harris in charge, but certainly don't expect him to keep us up; that would be a bonus.
Tim - you said exactly what I am feeling - but - with less obvious cynicism... The internal 'politics' within the hierarchy at the Club, has been nothing short of a shambles over several seasons (between and managers, staff & players .) It indicates (to me), a dictatorship !................... which might work with an employer and employees (( although, it's always going to end in tears! )) ......... and, whilst I can have some sympathy with Mr. Scally - for some of the insults he gets from fans,.... I believe that Mr. Scally fails to appreciate that he cannot be a dictator to fans - without obvious reaction and consequences. Gills fans ( as old as 'deputy goalkeeper - brb ), will be familiar with 'failure' ( on the pitch. ) Despite our empty trophy cabinet, the Club has (generally), enjoyed a good relationship with the fans....... In recent times - especially in the last year, Mr. Scally appears to have alienated fans, to such an extent, that people are afraid to open their mouth - to voice any displeasure - without being labelled a ''cancer'' ( quote ! ) - or being thrown out of the stadium - or banned for merely standing on a pavement... Scally doesn't seem to understand that the fans have many issues - not just the poor results on the pitch.... For too long, Mr. Scally has been a Human Resources and Public Relations disaster - because he behaves like a dictator.... The 'style' of his latest interview is more 'diplomatic' - I just hope it's just not more verbal diarrhoea, which we've been fed by Mein Fuhrer.
So the dressing room been bad for 3 months so agree with Always. Why not let Stevenage talk to Evans about job. Then why was Harris 2nd or third choice. Probably because he wanted a cheaper manager. That all changed after Oxford result and Scally out chants. He obviously thought need fans onside so decided Harris being a manager with good experience at this level could do that.
I do agree, it's seems odd all this three month stuff, so as you guys say, why not get rid when Stevenage came along. It does now seem like a damage limitation excercise to me, not that I blame him, the grief was coming thick and fast in his direction as the owner.
Frustrating ! Looking forward (tongue in cheek), to the 'open letter' that Scally will issue very soon.... Will it answer why he was so blinkered for so long - by not sacking Evans, after even half of the number of games in the winless run ? By failing to address the position of 'Head Coach', he allowed Evans to put the team in such a dire position - I cannot see relegation being avoided - DESPITE a fantastic performance against Ipswich... The Gills deserved at least a point out of the game... The performance was totally different to the Home defeat...... If only we had a bit more composure ( and better luck ), in front of goal... If Scally had sent Evans to Stevenage, when Borough wanted him - we could have got Neil Harris in ( 3 months sooner ), to use the (same) players to give us an improbable chance of the play-offs ( based on todays performance ) - instead of trying to bale the Titanic when it's already half submerged..... Harris has shown, in just two games, that the same Gills players, can be 'coached' to play a style that wasn't intended to relegate us...... Vociferous fans in the Rainham End ( and other parts ), have been treated, by Mr. Evans, to an example of behaviour as befits someone who has been accused of being a corpulent Caledonian masturbator ! ...People may say that Scally couldn't afford to sack Evans - well - just how much more income will Gills lose - by going into L2... He's got to reduce prices - AND will still lose 1500 to 2000 'customers.'..... That adds up to a lot of money - obviously not as much as not turning Priestfield into a housing estate. From a 'footballing' perspective, the future of GFC, and its' overall connection with, and impact on the Community, Mr. Scally has as many questions to answer as Boris does for organising a (many ) parties.,,, Perhaps they could consider a job-swap - what could go wrong ?
