The transfer of QPR goalkeeper Julio Cesar to Arsenal looks as good as done after Sky Bet has suspended betting on the deal.

The Brazilian has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium following the relegation of the Hoops and the Gunners’ wish for a new No.1.

Currently the north London club have experimented with Wojciech Szczesny, Vito Mannone and Lukasz Fabianski between the sticks, with none of the ‘keepers making the desired effect.

Yet Cesar on the other hand has been praised for his performances in the Premier League despite QPR finishing bottom of the table with just 25 points.

The Brazil international arrived at Loftus Road following seven years of success at Inter Milan, which included winning the treble of Serie A, the Coppa Italia and the Champions League in 2010.

Cesar also has 67 caps for Brazil and is their current first choice ‘keeper as the nation prepares to host the 2014 World Cup.

The 33-year-old signed in west London in August 2012 on a free transfer from Inter and played 24 league matches for the club – being dropped in the latter part of the campaign when it became apparent QPR would be relegated and the Brazilian would leave.

There has been further speculation linking the ‘keeper with Arsenal as Cesar has expressed his desire to remain in London, quoted in the Daily Mail as saying:

“I want to stay in England. I am enjoying London and I love the Premier League.”

Good luck to him. Weighing everything up, I was marginally disappointed with him.

It will be interesting to see how he does within a team whose defenders are a bit better than ours.

Not worth the wages. Goodbye and best of luck.

I wonder if he'll join a long line of Arsenal goalkeepers who drop clangers...

Cesar going to Arsenal could be one deal where we show a profit on the transfer fee, plus we get his wages off the payroll. Green will do for me: he can make a series of outstanding saves and he will then drop the occasional clanger but, taken overall, we'll be lucky to have him in the Championship.

On balance a good bit of business if we can release the wage burden and garner say £5m.

If he's on £100k per week - anything over £4m is ROI.

Not convinced watching him last year either, bit too laid back, shaky at times and frequently finding touch from goal kicks etc. Good shot stopper that's about it.

Always seems to parry rather than catch. Happy with Green.
