After single handedly halving attendances and destroying numerous other revenue streams, Simon Clegg is quitting ITFC. (No, you can't divest us of David McNally!!) Apparently, the 'invisible man' plans to take a more 'hands-on' role Best bit, for me, is the readers poll asking whether Cleggy boy did a good job in his four year stint http://www.eadt.co.uk/news/gallery_poll_simon_clegg_to_leave_ipswich_town_1_1864510
I think it's fair to say that he was always going to come off as the fool in this role. His primary role was to take the heat off the owner which he certainly did I've never been particularly vocal in my unhappiness of Clegg (except when we had Charlie Austin about to put pen to paper and then Clegg lost the pen) but he isn't a football man and had a very tough task on his hands trying to keep Keane in line and it was a very steep learning curve and ultimately cost him (his reputation & respect from the fans) and us (the chance of signing some decent players) Good luck to him I say and it is very interesting as to what happens next, is Marcus taking us seriously? Has he realised Clegg's wage could be better spent? Only time will tell but I think most Town fans will see this as something of a positive news story
absolutely gutted. now that ME has hired mick and got rid of clegg he might be doing you some good. i was very happy with the previous management setups. the only hopes are the ME was more 'hands on' when he appointed clegg and keane in the first place, or, that he is getting ready to streamline things before he sells. what i cant make sense of is that ipshit fans told us they were ****in loaded a few years ago yet they need to get rid of someone who only costs $150,000 per year? couldnt you get Michael Chopra to place a bet for you and with the guaranteed winnings keep cleggy for the good of all things football?
"Only Costs???" I think anyone on that much money needs to prove value for money and as we are stripping money back to meet with FFP. Clegg wasn't and therefore has been kindly asked to leave. I think we will see many more shake ups in the summer as well. Including Chopra being shown the door.
Clegg going will relieve some ipswich fans. Can't see a McNally style revelation turning up to fix them though.
