We all seem to agree that at the very least we still need to bring in a centre midfielder... I wouldn't mind putting in a cheeky bid to bring Dempsey back who hasn't set the world alight at Spurs! If not Dempsey how's about Sigursson instead? My third option would be a loan bid for Rodwell after Man City spent £60 million on another two midfielders this week.
Whilst I like the idea of Rodwell, we could never get him (or probably afford his wages). I think he would be looking to play for a team who would be in Europe at the very least to test himself against some higher class opposition than we could offer. I could see a loan to PSG or an italian side but not an English one. Dempsey - ah, we've had this debate and a general feeling was (I think) that whilst we all appreciated his talents we as a club have moved on and it would not be a positive move to bring him back. Quite why he is not appreciated at Spurs is, quite frankly, a mystery to me. He is a damn site more productive than some they have yet he is denigrated by every Spurs fan I know.
Dempsey is not a central midfielder. He would be competing for the RW spot or for Ruiz's spot as a CF. I've gotten over the Dempsey saga from last year and I'll clap him at the Cottage next year, but I don't think it's a positive move for either party to bring him back. I don't know much about Sigurdsson. Is he a CM?
Agree with others that a return for Dempsey isn't on. What about Jon de Guzman? Did well on loan at Swansea last season and apparently not keen on going back to Villareal.
Sigurdsson is more of an attacking midieilder and probably would be competing with Ruiz for places, he hasn't really been played in that position for spurs this season and has been used as cover down the left, he looks a shadow of the player he did last year for swansea.
It's not that we need a central midfielder of any type, we need a passing central midfielder to act as a playmaker and pull the strings the way Danny Murphy used to do. Dempsey isn't that type of player and, as n1ck says, neither is Sigurdsson. That's why some of us are keen on Huddlestone, although I'm sure there are plenty of other options out there. It's not about filling a place in the squad, it's about putting a round peg in a round hole.
Apparently Liverpool are prepared to sell Spearing and Shelvey.... Now Spearing is not good enough but Shelvey at the right price would be ok, still only 21 I would take him for 3/4 mill but not the 7 mill Liverpool are apparently looking for.
I've never quite been able to convince myself that Jonjo Shelvey is only 21. Fair play to him he puts himself about and makes some good deep runs. However I just don't think he's got the discipline, awareness or more importantly, the first touch control to be the midfielder we're looking for. And, despite still having 4yrs of his contract with Liverpool to run, he's over-rated at that price. If he would just get his act together our very own Pajtim Kasami could do just as good a job.
Jaimie O'Hara of Wolves has just been listed, I reckon he could be quite handy if we did go for him (also he's 26 years old and cheap)
Roger Johnson was also listed; I still can't believe Wolves paid £7m for him. Johnson has now been relegated three seasons in a row - what's the record? I'm guessing it's held by Tal Ben Haim, whatever it is! As for O'Hara, he had plenty of admirers a few years back. He's still 26, but he's been struggling with injuries for at least the past three years. I'm not sure it's really worth the risk unless he comes very cheap.
I would rather promote a couple of our youngsters can't see O'Hara being any better than them to be honest!
Sorry Ronnie but no thanks. As silky said Chris David is much the better option. The only word the I'd use about O'Hara is "BIG" - ego, wages, weight please log in to view this image And he once said he'd never play for Fulham!
Right I have decided Will Hughes is our man lets pay the £ 6 million to get him promote a few of the youngsters and that's our summer business done!!! Bring on the new season
Apparently Clough is asking £10m for him. http://www.thisisderbyshire.co.uk/C...tory-19436264-detail/story.html#axzz2Y5o2Z1UW Maybe not then.
To be honest captain he looks the real deal who could well turn out to be worth that, as long as a lot of it was in future clauses, international caps, appeareances etc etc I would be tempted to pay that! Maybe four mill up front then lots of future incentives Along with the rave reviews he has had over the last year There is an amazing you tube vid on him called Will Hughes wonderkid derby - now I'm not one to take notice of you tube I believe you can make anyone look good on there by showing a few goals and the four tricks they have carried out in there whole career but this vid is interesting its about 7 minutes and doesn't show one goal or one Ronaldo step over it just shows a player who can pass with great technique and is comfortable on the ball In fact it shows a blonde haired 17 year old Danny Murphy Clough may want ten million but a bid of four or five up front with future incentives I think would have to be considered by there board
I admire your optimism, but I can't see us making an offer that Derby are likely to accept. Loading most of the fee in performance related incentives is a nice idea for the buyer, but it's not going to appeal to Derby. It's not as if they are desperate to sell, so I just can't see it. Sorry.
What's Derby financial situation? Can they afford to turn down £6 million? I would throw Briggs into the deal as well don't think he will cut with us but will be ok in the championship
