We need two Premiership quality centre backs , City are going to I fear have an absolute field tomorrow against ours , the two worrying scenarios are 1) we are looking for cb's and waiting to see how the first few games pan out with Fonte and Hooiveld , risky as the price will go up for players as they will know we are desperate . 2) even worse scenario is that Adkins genuinely believes they are premiership class , if thats the case he has Billy Daviesed himself .
Why do people have to keep on mentioning the City forwards when making an argument in favour of needing to strengthen at CB? They would destroy many a CB. We'd need a couple of worldie's to cope with that attacking threat. Once people start talking about the Wigan forwards having a field day against our defence, then you have an argument worth listening to.
This is getting boring now. The pairing of Hooiveld and a fully fit Jose Fonte will do a good job for us, so there's no point bringing in cover who aren't at least up to that standard.

Probably right, but at least let them have a few games in the Prem and then say. Claus had been playing for a few years in the Prem by the time he partnered Killer. Killer was just an awesome defender that Claus partnered well. I think either Jos or Jose would do ok alongside a very good defender.
I wasn't knocking Jos and Jose, but in Claus and Killer we had fantastic CBs. We've been out of the PL for 7 years and have forgotten how good some of our players were. This time, instead of some star players, we have a manager capable of building an integrated team and make up for individual short comings.
Hooiveld will be ok I think, Fonte is looking slower and slower judging by the few pre season games I saw. Don't think we need a CB we can just get Jaidi back
If that happens then they really should be shot! I can see us having a fair bit of the ball in that one and the defence being under relatively little pressure. Even worldy CBs would have a tough time against a team as good as City if they were dominating the game. There isn't much wrong with Fonte and Hooiveld. The problem is that we don't have anything else, not that Fonte and Hooiveld aren't up to iy.
I too think Hooiveld may cut it, I just wonder if Fonte is a little slow. We don't need lots of extra players just one quality centre back and I think to be honest we will get one in the long run, it is just these things take time and you don't know what negotiations have been going on, so to say that our management are blithely unaware of the situation is a tad naive.
Indeed. I've got no problems playing Hooiveld and Fonte against the likes of Wigan and West Ham and Norwich. And for us, they are the games that matter. Not City. My issue, and it would appear to also be your issue, is if we suddenly have to turn to Seaborne in those games. Hence for everyone bringing this topic up, they should really be focusing on the likes of Wigan. If they really are worried about Fonte and Hooiveld against your Wigan's, then fine. People like you and I might not agree with what they're saying, but at least what they're saying has a logical starting point. But bringing the likes of City into the equation when discussing our CBs is just bizarre.
Dan, will you ever comment on a thread without slating the topic or the writer for it... We do need CBs, at least two. Hooiveld I feel confident he can do well, but Fonte worries me a little
