Harry's got some big decisions coming up with regards to our defensive pairings for the next few matches. Injuries permitting i'd like to see King and Gallas start against Arsenal next weekend, we all know how much stronger our defence is when king is playing and Billy had a stormer against the goons last year. With Gallas returning from injury i'd expect him to get at least a half against Wigan at the weekend to get some game time under his belt, before being rested against Shamrock. Shamrock will probably be one for Bassong and Kaboul, or even one of the youngsters. So i'd expect the following: vs. Wigan: Kaboul and Gallas (to be replaced with Bassong) vs. Shamrock: Kaboul and Bassong vs. Arsenal: King and Gallas
I wouldn't drop Kaboul for the Arsenal game, he's been playing really well recently, would be very unfair.
Kaboul's put in some excellent performances in the last few games though, WY. I didn't see the game last night, but the commentators praised him to the rooftops. It would be harsh to drop him now. If King's fit, then I'd say leave things unchanged from the win over Liverpool for the Wigan game. Play Gallas and Bassong against Shamrock and then see how things go from there. I'm sure that Gallas would be massively disappointed to miss out on a game against one of his old sides, but I'd like to see players picked based upon their performances. Edit: Didn't see the comment by CS before I posted!
I couldn't choose who to partner King for the Arsenal game, Kaboul's been brilliant and has worked really well with Ledley but Gallas, as we all know is a top, top centre back. Maybe even for the goons game have Kaboul at right back? Walkers been great but Kabouls aerial threat maybe needed to deal with Mertersacker and Chamakh (if the latter plays) and also cause trouble for them when we have set pieces (like last season!!! )
Kaboul comments noted, I agree it would be unfair on him given his recent performances, and he scored the winner against the goons last year. But I think Harry will go for Gallas and King if they're available. Agree SoS that Kaboul at RB could be the solution as he is stronger defensively than Walker and can also attack down the flanks (Crouch winner at City two seasons age )
Too soon for WG imo, he'll be abit match rusty probably so its not the game to risk that, and I'm 100% with CS and PNP about Kaboul, he's been excellent and even better alongside Ledders, if Dawson was fit he'd still be on the bench if it were left to me.
I think we have to accept that neither King, nor Gallas are liable to play more than half the games, this season. They both have fitness problems, and Gallas, especially, is no spring chicken. So you can expect a mix of those two, plus Dawson and Kaboul, depending on who's fit to play.
As long as Kaboul has recovered sufficiently from his two hours at Stoke on Tuesday, then him and King for Sat. Gallas and Bassong v Shamrock, then Kab and King v Arsenal, and after that, see how it goes.
