Centre back is needed without question, although last year we were leaking goals though a lack of aerial dominance. Pre-season it's been lapses and being played through to easily. Maybe dm should be addressed too?

If rvp gets injured or even loses form i can't see chamakh, vela or Campbell (if we get him) providing adequate cover. We need a striker in the mold of benzema.

I would ideally like to see vermelean at lb with kos and ideally Cahill in the centre. That'd be a pretty firm back line. But a steady lb signing would be awesome!

    Thoughts?

i personally think gibbs will step up, but we need a CB that can also deputise at DM for when Song and maybe Frimpong leave for the ACON. a striker i wouold agree with, but someone of benzema's calibre would want to start every game; not possible.

If (big 'if') we got Benzema would we not need to change our formation?

Out of that wish list, I think we'll only sign a CB

I'm not confident we will get anyone in that list! I think we will get a replacement for Nasri or Fab (if or when they leave) but I can't be sure on anyone else.

We bought Gervinho so Wenger wont be buying another striker. (I would love Benzema though)

Would love us to bring in a quality robust left back and centreback.

I dont think there's a single Arsenal fan out there that expects Gibbs to make it through the Season without picking up an injury. The thing is we all know that Wenger is not going to sign left back - despite how much we will need one.

I agree with the OP, we should go in for a proper world class player like Benzema and not another player with potential. It also makes alot of sense especially when the following things might happen to our front line: Bendtner leaving, Nasri leaving, Chamakah still sucking, Vela still sucking, RVP getting injured, Gervinho's first season, Miyachi and OXO's first season and Walcott getting injured. With all these things to consider, buying Benzema would be a good bet especially if we intend to CHALLENGE!!!

signing a CB is vital, it would allow Vermelean to move to LB with gibbs providing cover if he needs to move back into the centre due to injurys ect. Agree that we look a litle lite up front but think that walcott will play a more central role this season and with gervinho goming in i think we will cope. cant see wenger bringing in another striker.

If Wenger does get rid of Nasri and lets fabregas go to Barca then I think added a world Class Striker and adopting a more direct system would be the way to go.

here's what I would like to see...

    Away:
    ---------------Sczezney---------------
    Sagna---Cahill----Vermaelen--Baines
    ---------------Song-------------------
    --------Wilshere-----Ramsey--------
    Gervinho------Benzema----VanPersie

    Home:

    ---------------Sczezney---------------
    Sagna---Cahill----Vermaelen--Baines
    Walcott---Wilshere---Ramsey---Arshavin
    -----------VanPersie
    -----------------Benzema

read that arsenal are very close to agreeing a deal for scott dann from brum for around 10mil and that they have moved in front of liverpool. and in same post that wenger would still go for either cahill or samba, there is a deadlock with both them deals but arsenal are still in contact

  12. I wonder how much Arsenal are or were relying on the proceeds of transferring Cesc and Nasri in order that a CB, LB or Juan Mata could be sourced. Believing what one reads only serves to place one's nerves on edge. One thing I had thought of about Arsenal leaving deals till the last minute was that bargains could be had. The trouble is if a club knows that you are desperate to sign a player, I very much doubt if you would be offered that player for a song ( pun mildly intended ) so the last minute deals theory makes little sense to me. When the transfer window started, I understood that Nasri was in demand by either of the Manchester EPL teams. I would have thought that selling him then and investing the monies in the then more attractively-priced Mata would have been preferable to waiting until City know that we are now keen to offload Nasri and Valencia very much aware that we have great need for Mata. Now we could be offered less for Nasri and have to pay more for Mata and still have at least a CB to source.

Some of the thinking at the Emirates boardroom can be rather frightening.

I know that getting another CB is a priority for everyone but I am surprised Djourou and Vermaelen are rated so low by Arsenal fans. They both have the same sort of goals allowed per game ratio and they are both solid players. Koscielney is not bad either, particularly now he has a season in the epl under his belt. Cahill might well come in and not get a game.

I just don't think Wenger is going to be able to get a player, who can be sure he is better than those 3. Not easily anyway. Dann seems the likeliest option, but I can hear the howls of anger already.

Wenger won't buy anyone and if he did they would just be another Chamberlain that is "one for the future."

    Enjoy the Europa League <cheers>
