Hi guys, long time reader but i've finally got myself into gear and set up an account and post something!!
Was just curious what people think as to what is more essential, a decent centre back or a decent striker?

I have to agree with that!! I do personally think that a striker is of more importance, but with us being linked to 5 or 6 defenders in the last week, it does seem that we seem to be looking to strengthen that area more.

We had a record amount of clean sheets last season, this season we haven't had one since Chelsea and that was against 9 men!Defences win you games but we also need a poacher and a couple of midfielders,a holding player and a creative force.Throw in a decent left back and we have a chance of surviving, not much to ask is it?

I would be interested to see what strikers we pursue, there was so much talk of aj, zamora and defoe over the past few months, but they seem to have quietened a bit as of late, with the apparent money we now have to spend do people think that other options can now be considered?

We need strengthening in almost every department and I'd imagine they are going to give Hughes the funds he needs, otherwise he wouldn't have joined.

I'm sure we'll have a decent striker and CB before the end of the transfer window. I just hope we don't piss about testing clubs resolve with small bids, hoping to find their breaking point. We haven't got time for that now and need to go for the throat and get the players in without messing about.

Even so, I think there'll be the usual brinkmanship between buying and selling clubs, and I'm expecting the last week in Jan to be frantic for all clubs, QPR no exception

Welcome Bromley, I think that we need both plus a few extra.

I think we have a good defense at the moment but they're just not playing in tandom. If the new manager could get that going then we'll do well. With that said, it still could be improved at the back and we could do with some backups at the least because we don't have decent backups now.

We do need to start scoring goals but maybe the new manager can get the best out of the strikers we already have and perhaps add another.

I think maybe defense is more important for a teams overall performance and confidence.

You never know with the right service from the back our forwards may amaze us. Feel part of our goal problem was down to the service they got, although I know they are not the best, but I think MH will get more out of them than before.

agreed, if hughes can get swp and taarabt providing the service that we know they can, then who knows how many goals macheda, campbell and bothroyd can score. I think its easy to slate our lack of goals up front, but the fact that taarabt has yet to get an assist this term, along with only 1 or 2 from swp, shows that it is difficult to fully assess our strikers at the moment.

Feel we do need a leader at the back. We've been chopping and changing our CB's all season, so not surprised that it hasn't gelled. Samba would give us that back four leadership and steel that we lack at the back. Full back, to replace Traore while he is away (and maybe give Traore chance to play forward some time). Can we get better feed to our forwards to give them more chances - equally, we've squandered some good chance too in games - but is it about percentages? Could all change if we start pushing a 4-4-2 formation, but we'll need to strengthen and get players in their strongest positions - eg SWP and improve our service.
