“They put 31 crosses into the box and we didn’t stop any and they deservedly won the game. I’m not hiding behind anything."

Didn't I say last week we didn't deal with anything in the box? How was it that some people thought the centre backs played well? They are the problem, pure and simple.

I thought it was the full backs job to stop crosses, a centre backs job is to clear it when it arrives. We are being exposed down the wings too much and I don't blame the CB's for that. Everyone is at fault for not scoring as much as they are for conceding.
The whole team sucks nuts. Results are generally better with Hyam in the team though so I'll exempt him.

It's the central defenders' job to head the ball away, they can't. Cresswell is a young lad and a promising full back who needs to be commanded and coached positioning by a good centre back next to him and Edwards is a winger who has always given 100%. The two centre backs we have are the worst I have ever seen.

We dont need to sack Jewell and go round in circles, we need Mills involved to organise the defence and relate to the fans.

I dont think you can blame 2 centre backs, the back 4 or the back 5. Its a team effort. We cant defend, dont create and cant take chances. We havent got one competent area of the team. It doesnt help that we dont get an 11 and stick with it.

In my opinion, for what its worth, the defence starts up the front, with our forwards, then it's the midfield, then finally the defence.
Look at any good, and succesful team. The forwards work their socks off and harrass the back four, and don't let them distribute to the midfield. And then if it dows get through, the midielders then are responsible for stopping the supply line to the forwards, which includes the ball getting crossed into our box.
We have a very bad habit of not working hard enough from the front. We let the opposing team waltz through us, and bombard our defenders with crosses. To have 31 crosses in our box is an absolute disgrace!! Our front 6 are as lazy as you can possibly get. Yiu can't blame the defenders and keeper for this one..31 crosses!!! I still can't get my head round that kind of figure. Thats one every 3 minutes FFS!

I agree with stretchy and TB, blaming the back 4 for a team effort is rather unjust. A team, as a whole, should track back and defend. If you look at the top teams, scrap that, better teams, they track back more and work as a unit.

Hampy i think you're being harsh on the central defenders, that is basically 1 cross every 3 minutes, the best central defence & Keeper could hope to win 100% of crosses and with that many coming in you will concede. the first thing is to stop the crosses coming in, and that results in the full backs getting tighter, and the wingers tracking back when we haven't got the ball, when you half the number of crosses coming in can you look at the centre halves as the problem.

Looking at the BBC iplayer reruns of the goals from Saturday they were obviously poorly dealt with by the defence (and what Henderson offers which Loach doesnt Im not sure but thats another matter) but both should never have reached the area. There was no pressure on Hull from the moment they got the ball to the moment we picked it out of our net. Shockingly bad team performance.

Wright, cheers for reminding me that we couldnt arrange a piss up in a brewery but it does help back up my point. The highlights shows 4 Hull attacks where we didnt attempt to make a challenge. All of them were bad play by the defence but the midfield should have stopped all of them from reaching our box. Pathetic.
