A lot being made of our midfield, who'll play where..blah,blah,blah. More problematic in my mind is our defence, still no left back aside from Insua (Robinson is still learning) And more worrying not top notch center half. Carra is get on, although still a brilliant organiser the legs are a little behind the brain in movement these days. Agger, thing he's qulaity but he's more injury prone than a crash test dummy. Skrtel scares the ****e out of me, a liabilty waiting to happen. And the greek lad, is too slow and gets caught wrong side too easily. So what's the option? I keep seeing Scott Dann's name being banded about, but is the more a case of he's a lifelong red, than any good? Cahill at Bolton, maybe a cheeky bid for Jagkelia..The BN's do need the money. If you where Kenny, which one one you go after?
I'd love Jag but not sure he would go. Don't know a lot abut Dan but some people on here seem to rate him. I think our pre-season has realy shown up where our problems are. I think Kenny is holding out on Enrique and I don't believe he simply not looking to spend there.
Out of all of them I prefer us to go for Scott Dann. For around £10million much better value for money over Gary Cahill. Jagielka is on the wrong side of 25.
Sotiris - Older now, injury prone Jamie - Older now, injury prone Daniel - Injury prone already Martin (Skrtel) - Good backup Martin (Kelly) - Covering right-back Definetly need another centre-back aswordmadeofhash - Thanks for pointing it out
Scott dann is on of the top CB's in the league, its no wonder that brums form dropped after he was injured.
We still need a centre back,Godin is on the radar bur Scott Dann who has prem experience would be a better option,as he and Roger Johnson were central to Biriminghams long unbeaten home run.
I've never really watched Dann play, I never singled him out in B'ham games to be able to rate him but I just hear that he is a good defender and B'ham struggled without him. Cahill is OK at best but I think the people that rate him highly have let the English media do the thinking for them. Dann to me seems to be the cheaper and better option. But I fancy a commanding centre half who isn't afraid to clout people across the back of the head if they fall asleep at the back, I'm not sure if Dann is this type of player?
I think Dann would be a good signing. I also hope Skrtel improves and stops trying to rob everyones shirt. Someone needs to point out you do that after the match.
Vidic is seemingly world class and is the most compulsive shirt puller in the premier league bar none.Skrtel is coming on,and I reckon Clarkey will improve him further.
I agree KPR, I don't get the Skrtel bashing. He has come on leaps and bounds since we found form again, as has most of the team. He was flawed just like plenty of other individuals under Hodgeson.
I think we need someone who's young, but not too young. Mid-twenties is about where we should be looking, for someone who has age and experience on their side. Cahill and Dann fit this, and out of the two I'd prefer Dann. That is, of course, ignoring the foreign market.
Dann for no more than £10 mill is a good buy, as should not be expensive regards wages Good solid centre half with proven premiership quality
Out of those three i would say that Dann would probably be the best bet, he's a liverpool fan and would probably be the best value for money out of the three. Jagielka i doubt the BS would sell him to us and the price for Gary Chaill seems to have gone through the roof lately. If i had my pick of who to buy out of anyone i would say Mertesacker would probably be a good bet he's been linked with the a few teams and i don't think he'd cost the world, he's experienced at the top level and is still quite young. He's also very good in the air and would give us that threat from set pieces that we've lacked since Sami left and i think he and Agger would make a decent pairing providing Agger can stay fit for long enough.
Is Godin any good? I've never really looked out for him in Atletico or Uruguay matches. I would love to see Mertesacker in the team, would love to see a German come in.
Very sus about Germans. They were overrated at the World Cup by a rampant and short-sighted English media. When they met a decent side they looked like boys. International football is a different beast entirely, which is why the same nations keep winning the World Cup. Spain finally dumped their 'perennial losers' tag but Holland still have it and they've had some top players with total football at their heart. Look at Voronin's stats at Hertha Berlin - 11 goals in 27 league games, his best stats since he was at Bayer Leverkusen. That says enough about the Bundesliga for me.
