The media would have us believe that Celtic will suffer and have to downgrade the quality of their playing staff if there is no Newco or rfc in the SPL. Sky money will be a fraction of the present level, BUT is all this true. There is more than one potential scenario. 1. Celtic get less than £2m from Sky deal. Not a crippling loss. A couple of quality friendlies will make up this loss. 2. Celtic have an excellent scouting system which has produced quality players like Kayal, Hooper, Izzie, Wanyama to name but a few, who will be sold for many millions more than they were purchased for. At present value Celtic could earn at least £24million from the sale of these players, not to mention sell on clauses etc. It is not impossible that they could be replaced with other quality players who could be sold on yet again. 3. Celtic could qualify for the CL Group Stages and earn £10-12million given a little addition to the current squad. failing this the EC GS would also bring in a few millions. Either of these two is much more likely without rfc as rivals to the monies from Uefa AND it would be our sole money, no sharing. 4. Our current U19 squad won the league by 20 pts from rangers. Some of these youngsters are breaking through. A bit like the QSK back in the 70's. Recruiting quality among Scottish youngsters would be almost a Celtic monopoly on young talent, as newco/rfc offer little to them. 5. The strategies above could mean a few years of qualifying for the CL GS or EC GS and so mean that as a club on its own, we could actually benefit from rangers absence. I believe that a weaker Celtic due to the demise of rfc is not automatic..................in fact 1-5 above suggest the opposite may well be true.
