http://www.philmacgiollabhain.com/the-celtic-away-support/ I am not looking to start a debate on this. The reason I am posting this is to share Phil's thoughts on the topic. i don't share them as is probably fairly obvious, i just figured that there is no harm in people arming themselves with a variety of opinions to inform their position.
He's got it spot on. As plenty of the replies say, we have better songs to sing than the IRA pish. He's got straight to the crux of the matter when he says (in a reply further down the page) that 'I may express a point of view that others may find offensive...However if I am expressing a view offensive to some and being offensive is the OBJECTIVE of the exercise then I am the problem'
Im a very proud irish republican however i go to the football t watch football and support celtic, not to air my political viewpoints we have plenty of good football songs that we can support the team with I can easily see why people would be offended by the songs - rightly (or more likely) wrongly they can take them the wrong way. So we dont need to sing them. They could lead us into trouble - and i love my team too much to be involved in something that could lead them to trouble If you want to sing about the Ra do it to your heart is content - in your own time
What has the IRA got to do with Celtic and Scottish football? Absolutely nothing. Time to leave the this bullshit in the past. We have a go at Rangers fans for dredging up ****e about King Billy etc. but some of our fans are no better. There are plenty of songs we can sing without having to resort to this type of puerile nonsense.
it saddens me when this pish gets an airing. stuff like up the ra and the sinn fien ira pish in fields of athenry. no place for it at celtic in the 21st century.
Yet it should not be a crime to sing them If Celtic decide to kick you out for singing them then fair enough, it is their property. But i will never agree to criminalising (?) songs or words, even from their fans More effort should be put into finding out why these songs are sung, then we might see people CHOOSING not to sing them instead of bans which encourage them to be sung in defiance.
Phil ma gob ****e is a fanny who lives in Ireland and tells us Scots of Irish decent that Scotland is oppressing us. Everything is a big prod conspiracy and he is the superman who was first to exaggerate the Rangers tax issue so we should all pure worship him. Sadly thousands think he's great!
I lost any potential respect for him when I first visited his site and seen that he described himself as a "dissident journalist" - and the fact that he has translated his name into Irish
I don't think whether the man's a loony or not is the issue here. It's the singing of certain songs and the chants.
Why don't you go and read David Leggat's blog then. While you read that ****e some of us can get peace from your incessant crtiticism of all things Celtic.
I like him for sticking the boot into rangers But see this "im more Irish than the rest of you" attitude......its lame "i know a volunteer, my grandad....etc" its a bit preachy Just wind up the h.....vandals and that will keep me happy
When are you going to make Stereo the mod for here Mick? The people have spoken. Plus it'll **** the likes of EDGE, Trev and Girvan right off. That alone makes it worth it.
