Celtic leave Gary Hooper out of Cliftonville trip as QPR make increased bid

    STV 16 July 2013 10:12 BST

Gary Hooper looks to be on his way out at Celtic after an 'increased bid' was received on Monday night.SNS Group

Celtic have left Gary Hooper out of travelling party for the trip to Cliftonville after an increased transfer offer came in from Queen's Park Rangers.

The 25-year-old is officially out with a groin injury, according to Johan Mjallby, but looks set to have played his last game for the Scottish champions after the bid late on Monday evening.

"A bid came in last night," Mjallby said. "I don't know how the club has responded to it.

"We know it looks likely right now that Gary is going to leave the club. I'm not too sure the final word has been said yet. We have to wait and see.

"I think the club is going to sit down and think about it. If he has played his last game, I don't know.

"They [QPR] increased the bid a wee bit when it came in yesterday. If it is good enough, I don't know. That's something you have to ask the chief executive, the manager and the board."

Hooper joined Celtic from Scunthorpe United and has scored 82 goals for the club in 136 appearances.

I am actually getting excited about this. This is just the sort of signing that we should have had last summer instead of the too late (and very expensive) remedy in January. If it happens, it is a surely sign of the continued commitment from the owners. Might even be announced on a Wednesday!

Is this really happening? This guy should definitely be in the Prem, second best transfer you've done since promotion. Who Hull think they are gonna find better for £5m is a mystery to me.

Shocking isnt it, hes not 30+ and been injured for months. Ill be amazed if we get him, especially as Norwich offered £8m last season and were turned down.

Somebody has finally came to senses in QPR. We knew that already two years ago . This signing could turn our "šhip" finally. Still, the problem is , that this phase ("is set sign to QPR/Is close to sign in) will probably last another week or so. I really hope that this transfer will materliaze.

Yep, it is going to be tantalisingly close for a while yet. So, like the Man U fans season before last, don't pop the champagne too early!

Hope it happens. But can't believe he wouldn't prefer to join a Premier League club. Maybe he feels with a surname like his, he was born to play for us

We shall see. One thing is for certain, our transfer activity over the last few years has been far better than yours (although every team in the football league's transfer activity has been better than yours), most of us are happy with the way the club conducts itself in the transfer market as it means we'll never end up in a situation like yours, Pompey's or even ourselves prior to the Allams coming in.

Saw a good comment on the BBC, Hooper plays for Celtic and QPR, De Wolfe played for Wolves and Danny ****tu played for Millwall.

We are still getting stupid comments on there as well, no mention on all the money Norwich, Saints, Swansea are spending but we get a bargain and of course hes only coming for the money.

It could happen if Hughes ends up managing you.

Just for fun, consider Mittal's fortune. Net worth according to Forbes $16.5b = £11b. At 2.5% = 275 000 000 per annum interest. Take away half for tax (ha ha) = 137 500 000 pa = £11.45m pcm.

I know 'net' is not all cash but just might dissuade the odd poster from commenting on 'our situtation' without thinking. And that is just one of the wealthy men that own the club.

Of course that is as long as he continues to be involved with QPR.

Hes about as credible as Cerny. Now he might still sign but this guy is just taking a flyer on it and hoping he can use it to state hes ITK, after all hes got a 50 50 chance of being right.

The only credible one on there is Ric-Roc.

His signing would be a major coup. It would be the drawing power of our 'project'.

Just a hunch, but I would suspect that the weekly wage on offer at Loftus Road might be significantly higher than what he is on now, or would get at Norwich, let's not kid ourselves.
